I taped off the short red wire closest to the RCA connector. I then connected the red wire from the bundle on the bottom left, along with the antenna power wire (blue) to the Blue w/ white stripe wire off the pioneer harness. The black wire in the bundle to the left should be grounded to the chassis (there is a 10mm dash bolt that works well for this just behind the radio opening.

I think there is multiple ways it could work, but yes, what I did was connect both the short red trigger wire and long red wire to the blue/white wire that is also spliced with the blue antenna wire. I twisted all four/five wires in a twist wire connector similar to what you are using. I then spliced the black ground camera wire with the black wire from the radio/harness. You can also ground that black wire to the chassis as mentioned. I've seen some people mention only connecting one of the red wires and it still works, so I'm not sure if there is much of a difference either way.

Does anyone have a picture of a DMH-W4660NEX installed in their 3rd gen? I've been looking everywhere trying to find an installed picture, but all I can find for finished install pictures is the 6600. Just want to know if it looks as flush as people are getting the 6600 to look. Thanks in advance!

    @Puppypunter should.

I have a 4660 in my 2002 Tundra and it looks nice there. I definitely prefer the 6600 in my Tacoma though.

@daveeasa thanks, appreciate it. The 4660 is at the very top of my price range. Honestly, it might even have more functionality than I need, but I'd pay more for a flush OEM aesthetic. Looking forward to see if @Puppypunter replies.

@zachrdz woah man! Thank you. I could have sworn I went through every one of those photos, but I guess not. I appreciate you passing those pics along. What are your thoughts folks? Not nearly as flush as the 6600. Anyone think that they could get it to look more flush than what's pictured?

I think, having both units in my two trucks, that the extra $ for the 6600 is 100% worth it. I would wait and save and go 6600 without question.

I like the 4660 for a double din install but it's inferior in several ways. Most notably it's a laggier interface, feels like a super old computer vs the 6600 which isn't fast but is much snappier.

But, most importantly, the larger screen size is just a massive improvement over stock and over the 4660. You can actually see the map without having to look closely. You can leverage split screen to see the map and your audio stuff. Bigger is 1000x better on this one.

Buy used or open box if you have to but the 4660 is not the right call IMO.

Sorry, been way behind on here. Those pics posted by @zachrdz pretty well sim it up. I like the head unit. It isn’t as flush as the 6600 though. You can kind of see where it is sunk in about 1/4”. There isn’t a gap or anything because of the install kit, so it looks fine. The 6600 has a lot of screen real estate for sure, and does fit nice and flush, but you will need to swap the trim surround, so add another $200-250 to the price. When I put the 4660 in, the difference was about $500, so I opted for the 4660 (obviously). Some day I might migrate the 4660 to the wife’s Subaru and go for the 6600, but I’m not in a hurry to. Let me know if you’d still like some pics and I’ll try to grab them while it’s light out.

It can be done, but you’d only reduce the inset from 1/4” to an 1/8”. I thought about doing it, but it didn’t seem worth it to me (and I do some really stupid stuff). You’d have to remove the plastic from the back side of the kit (I would use a router with a sled set up).

I’d agree in hindsight. The 4660 is a fine unit for what I use it for (CarPlay pretty much exclusively), and I’d still have trouble justifying the extra $500 or so for the difference (might be more now? Been a while since I priced them) , but that being said, I’d try harder to justify it now.

Just a slight correction, the difference in head units is now $450. Tack on $250 for the trim piece, and you have to decide if it is worth $700 for the difference. If you think you’ll be okay with the 4660, it makes sense to me to go with it. If you think you’ll regret it later, then save up enough for TWO 4660’s and get the 6600

What trim piece are you referring to? I didn't have to swap anything on my truck and the 6600 fit perfectly.

You have a larger head unit. Sorry about that, I didn’t really check what trim level he had. On the Pre 2020 SR, the trim around the head unit is designed for a smaller screen. Those crutchfield pics are what mine looks like. So to put a 6600 in there requires that whole trim piece (the piece that the two vents are attached to) be replaced or modified. I don’t recall which
Is which, but if your truck came with the smaller screen, you need to replace this (or modify it if you’re feeling lucky)

Ahh I didn't realize there was a smaller bezel on the SR's. I have a Sport so it was a perfect fit for me. Great headunit and still one of the best upgrades I did on the truck.

This might help show the difference?
SR showing where the edges of the 6600 go (roughly obviously :))

And a pretty comparable pic of the 6600.

Everything about the SR is entry level :p. I’m cool with it though, I like a challenge. If it were me (and I was more reasonable) I’d try to opt for the 6600 from the get go. If you have the right trim, the $450 isn’t too bad. Or you can do what I’m doing and spend the $750 now, just to spend $1450 later. But at least I can reuse Maestro

Should be able to reuse the harness as well making it an even simpler and easy swap.

That would be nice. I suspected the plugs were the same in the back of the unit, but wasn’t positive.

@TiHo so you were able to install the 6600 in your Sport without needing to replace your bezel? Do you know if that's the same for Offroad? Sounding like 6600 is the way to go as long as you have the money.
