Finally installed the TRD intake... I know, I know... "it doesn't even do anything", "it's a waste of money"... but I wanted it and you guys keep buying glare blockers so thanks! lol

    Before (dirty engine bay)

    After (quick cleaning)

Also, should I be concerned by this oil (or oily liquid) in the intake tube???

It appears the TRD airbox is larger than OEM.

But the glare blockers actually do something though, and they are cheap... lol

That oil is probably from the PCV valve, and it's normal. It's pulling crank-case air into the intake charge and it pulls a little bit of oil mist with it. Fortunately I believe the motor is both direct injection and port injection so it should keep the intake valves fairly clean. If you want extra peace of mind you can install a catch-can to remove most of that, though you will need to empty it periodically.

    EDIT: fixed spelling error

Ha, I wasn't saying the glare blockers don't work or are a waste of money (although plenty of people have) but referring to the small income from selling them being my "tacoma spending money"!

And thanks, I was thinking that's what it was but haven't gotten enough into the mechanical aspects of these trucks yet to confidently determine that myself, I'll always ask for second opinions when I see stuff like this just to be safe!

*re-reads the original post with new context* ohhhh, my bad. Misunderstood what you were saying about the glare blockers.

Well here's a mystery for the ages... Check out these dyno results below.

BLUE is a stock TRD Sport running:
    • Firestone Destination LE2 265/65R17, which weigh 37# according to TireRack.com and 34# according to TireSize.com
    • OEM TRD Sport wheels, which weigh 26# according to offcamber
    • Total wheel + tire weight (worst case) is ~63#

RED is the same TRD Sport running:
    • Kenda Klever RT 35x10.5 R17, which weigh between 69-73# according to The Google(TM)
    • OEM 4Runner TRD Pro SEMA wheels, which weigh 25#
    • Total wheel + tire weight (best case) is ~94#

The only changes between red and blue are wheels and tires, nothing else (on the drivetrain) is different because I've been changing one thing at a time and checking the stats to ensure I know what affects what.

    upload_2022-2-21_11-47-29.jpg

Somehow adding nearly 50% the original rotational mass per-wheel has netted me +2HP???
So there it is folks, follow my example and add a ton of heavy bullshit to your drivetrain in order to boost those buff horsies. :militarypress:

Getting a tune done tomorrow and taking the truck back to the dyno Wednesday to check the results. Based on today I cannot wait to see what the hell that does to the numbers... :jerkoff:

If I had to guess it's due to the SSO bumper I installed a couple weeks back. That thing looks badass, so maybe the truck is feeling more confident and performing accordingly.

Not that it would actually make a difference but was it a four wheel dyno or just rear wheels?

The place is equipped for 4WD pulls because they specialize in Subie tunes, but I asked and they said both pulls were 2WD (which makes sense for the Taco.)

ok, mostly I'm wondering if the front wheels were spinning, even if they were unpowered at the time, or if they were stationary. I don't think it would effect the difference between the runs, but may effect the actual figures by spinning two wheels instead of four. There's also the possibility that the truck could pull a BMW Diesel move and change it's map if it thinks that it is on a two wheel dyno being emissions tested? I have no idea if that is actually a thing that could happen though.

    Oh look, another mod....
No problem. I have lots of links for Voodoo blue colored add'ons for your Taco. Just ask and I can source it for ya'. Before long, it'll look like Papa Smurf jerked off all over the interior of your truck!

Good to know. I’m having a malfunction on mine and I have an apt to get them looked at and am being told it’s $200 but possibly more. I figure save that money and put it to the savings to get a new bumper
