Thanks that's super helpful and exactly how I thought it should be. I'll match my flange and input. You have now done the same thing, matched the flange on the NWF box with the one that would normally come behind your trans.

Said differently, the flange itself wasnt the problem in shifting to hi-lo on the NWF box, but the flange being the wrong one for your trans was the issue. Correct?

If I have this all correct, I have an AT flange you can have that I won't need off my donor

    Correct

My issue was that i tried running the RA61F flange on my AWD case since i knew i needed the auto flange for the crawl box to seal the trans. In other words, the o-ring flange will not work on your rear-most case with the crawl box in front. You must run the AT flange on your rear t-case so that the crawl box can shift into low because the RA61F flange is a larger O.D.

Hope this makes sense, let me know if i need to clarify. And thank you for the offer! I will keep this in mind in case the one i ordered doesnt work. I found one on ebay for $16 bucks so if that comes in undamaged, that will be a score

That makes perfect sense. I can easily see how a longer flange on the rear case would prevent the shift rail on the NFT case from going all the way back.

6speed taco flange left versus auto FJ right.

From trans bell housing to the back of the crawl box is 32 1/8”

Good pic for comparison, thanks for that! So maybe it was the overall length that got me and not the diameter of it.

Thank you, that's much much shorter than the dual driven gear cases. If I ever decide to swap the crawler to driver drop instead of passenger I think I am definitely going to go for one of those boxes, they are super cool!

Sure thing, yeah the NWF is only 6.5” from flange to flange, so pretty short. I really like the fact that it’s all toyota internals, that’s hard to beat imo!

    Robert,
I will have to look into the shifter, Thanks my good man.
Can I ask you an odd question? Could you please measure from the front of the bell housing to the center of the shifter? I have a reason to ask and now any advice on where to purchase a Hurst shifter?

They used to be 339 but you know.. inflation is messing up everything in that regard. That’s one hell of a delay on those blowers. Can’t believe it’s taken this long. Those would be selling like hot cakes if they were in stock!

Pretty excited for this one! Hopefully everything goes smoothly

You bet! Hoping i can make this happen by year end. Front and rear diffs are what's holding me up. And i havent quite decided if i want 4.88's or 4.56s. Leaning towards 4.56s and stepping down to 285/70R17s since they offer some in SL and i could save roughly 15lbs per corner

Build update, motor had some sort of internal component failure and started knocking badly right before i got there Friday, so the turbo build has been tabled for now. The plan now is to put a head gasket on the old motor and put it back in the truck so i can drive it again. Not sure what the long term plan is yet though
