I've not had that experience with the M12 Fuel Circular Saw.

Ya i was probably demanding a lot out of it. It’s definitely reliable for small cuts.

I just tried the rear handle m18 Fuel circular saw with a 5.0 Ah batt and man I was far more impressed with perf. than expected. I have only ran it with the blade off my makita worm drive for a fair comparison. I need to quantify, but it felt much faster cutting through a 2x12 test piece. I need to rip along 30' of 2x12 facia board and will try a real comparison between the two saws. So far my impression is that fuel rear handle rides like a well tuned 2-stroke motorcycle that just wants to rip.

Per the assessment above I agree at some point you need a corded circular saw as batteries will fade. But based on the juice of the fuel rear handle thus far, I'll only be looking for my corded worm drive when all the batts are depleted.

If you used the circular saw with anything less than the 6.0 battery, that might be why you were disappointed.

I've always been kind of unimpressed with the m12 multitool but i loved the m18 one. Certain tools feel very underpowered in their m12 version like the hammer drill

I don't have an m12 saw, but I'd imagine its not "underpowered," just meant for lighter work. I think if you find an m12 tool underpowered, you should be using an m18 version, or some other 18/20V/corded.

So now, my question is: What are you trying to do? Is your intent to just have it be a "hybrid" light where you can use it plugged in to a 12VDC power supply as your main light source, and use it as a battery light other times?

If you're looking to just have it as a plug in spotlight, I think there are far more cost effective ways to provide light when powered by 120VAC...

Don't get me wrong, I like tinkering, I just don't see what you are trying to do, unless you're trying to find a way to use it as a automotive 12VDC spotlight? Again there are far more cost effective ways to do that. :notsure::notsure:

Thanks. Yes pretty much use it as an automotive spotlight if needed. I agree about cost effectiveness but yes was thinking about powering that light with 12VDC from a power supply or auto batt. I haven't dug into what Redlink actually is, and figured the batt and tool would likely speak to each other. Will find out.

Within reason the M12 Hackzall and M12 saw are both pretty usable. But the 6.0 battery is pretty much required.

    I have both M12 and M18 saws.

I have a dead M12 battery or two around here. Might have to take one apart, remove the cells, wire leads into the case and hook it to a car battery and M12 light just to see what happens.

I have used M12 batteries to power 12v circuits like the power windows in my truck and move a set of power seats in a junkyard car.

Agreed. It could really help in a pinch, or might make the case to keep that 12V light in the vehicle if it works out easily.

Ehh, why? Get a simple corded light if that's what you want, or just an inverter to charge your M12 stuff on the fly.

I feel like you're trying to find a hack-job solution to a problem that's already been cleanly solved.
