Rotated tires and reset TPMS. Any reason to bother with dealer service at 5k miles?

5k service doesn't include an oil change, I had one done anyways but I had to pay.

I'd recommend rotate tires every 5k, not just for rotating, but to actually have the chance to check for wear and nails
there have been a few times the tire pressure was fine but clearly a nail was lodge in there and I only caught it when I rotate the tires to inspect.

But I have to admit, rotating your own tires on a pickup truck or SUV is such a PITA

True but many people on here change oil and check fluids. Some dealers change it if requested for free as part of the Toyota care

No. check your air pressure in the tires, fluid level and oil level - the dealer does not do shit until 10K unless you want to pay. Waste of time - get the tools and do it yourself.

No reason to EVER go to the dealer unless it’s a warranty item.

Reality check 5k check it’s free regardless of what some say I’ve had zero issues with the dealer handling my vehicles. You just need to look over your vehicle when you leave it and when you pick it up. If there is an issue point it out before you leave the dealership lot.

You can take one early but then you only get 1 more oil change as part of the freebies.

Less than 5% of people change their own oil anymore. Even a enthusiast's forum such as Tacomaworld would be hard pressed to hit 10% of people who change their own oil.

It's time & mileage. You're entitled to 2 oil changes within 2 years. At my 12 month service the service manager said "we'll be changing the oil." Between being retired & COVID fooking up travel plans I then had <5K miles on the truck. Of course dealers vary wildly. My dealer has a deserved rep for quality work. No issues at all.

Everyone is leaving out the most important thing of the 5k check. Checking the drivers mat.

I ignorantly took mine in for the 5k service which is basically a fluids check and a tire rotation. It cost the dealership over $1,200 after they chowdered every lug hole on my brand new aftermarket wheels. Needless to say I have never been back.

If you do go in for the 5000 mile checkup. Jack your truck up when you get home and reseat the lug nuts and torque to factory specs. Better yet, put a Sharpie mark on the inside of a tire and see if it rotated when you get home.

I tried and went postal when they wouldn't change my oil too at 5K. Kinda went off on them about how the free oil changes were mine to use whenever
I wanted but they didn't see it that way. I was a bit irritated... quite irritated. Paid a decent shop to do it for me.

Funny thing is, 2 days later, all the tires on my wife's car were about 15 pounds low. One tire, ok, but all 4 ?...

If you have to go through all that just to double-check your shop's work on a simple tire rotation, you're going to the wrong shop. Find someone you trust.

    Still thinking about it.
Really? Man I’m surprised if that’s true. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Is it just us old guys that maintain their own junk? Nah…

The kids working at Jiffy Lube are better trained than the low paid oil monkeys at a dealership. Let that sink in. o_O
