Have you check your front diff crossmember?

 

I think that one was kind of a fluke with my truck, but I think it's always work checking the core support, bed mounts/anywhere on the bed, coilbuckets, axle, etc.

Speaking of which, I'm worried about my previously cracked coilbucket making it through another year. Need to try to build a crossbrace. I asked dirt designs about those crossbrace brackets but they aren't building them any more.

 

wow really? Not even as a DIY kit? Cause it wouldn't take much to get them cut.

You could cut out the old stock buckets, weld in some new ones from Solo for a 10'' CO and get a XLT kit from solo too hahaha

 

If/when the stock buckets get cut out, a solid axle will be installed.

Would need to start ordering shocks and stuff for a build next year given the current lead times on things. Also kinda leaning towards custom axles over investing in junkyard stuff if I do it, but we all know how indecisive I am on this truck.

Plus, curious how capable it will be on the 35s with the crawlbox.

 

very honestly. But not unstoppable. 37s would be near that though I think going off the shit Silas did with his.

If we could shoe horn the 8'' front diff in there 37s would be much more tempting IMO.

 

Did you ever get your SS5s from DD?

 

I saw on their website they were saying shipping in two weeks, but wasn't sure how that was impacting previous orders. IIRC, their last 15% off offering around Christmas was saying then that delivery was mid-January and I thought you were a part of that.

 

Shipping of all the pre-orders was supposed to be Jan 25, but they didn't end up shipping any of them then b/c there was some part (likely the LEDs based on previous supply chain issues they've had) that they couldn't get into their assembly line. So, they actually started shipping last week (my understanding from a post I just happened to notice somewhere) and are now working through the backlog of the pre-orders. I have no idea how many of those there are, but I have an email that says mine will ship in the next week.

 

I am curious where you will be mounting them. On top of the front bumper? Under the hoop?

Looking forward to seeing the output at some point.

 

Very. 4600 stock class for ultra4 has max tire size of 35 and they get through some incredible terrain.

Of course we don't get the option of portal hubs which I'm jealous of.

 

What trails do you want to do that you haven't already done with your current setup? I feel like a double locked 1st gen on 33s can do 95% of the trails out there. At some point the trails that challenge it now will become easy and easy isn't fun.

@Squeaky Penguin TW just decided that a 4600 class truck is the direction you are going. Don't let us down!

 

That's why I've kinda decided I don't really want tons and 40s.

Truck is plenty capable as is. I'm just sick of things falling apart and worrying about what's next.

I would like to get to a place where I can use it and not be chasing broken parts, and I think that's much more plausible with a solid front axle. Plus, at some point you need to stop investing it what hasn't been working.

 

I think its the miles of high speed stuff that is making things fall apart. I bet your suspension components will last longer with more technical crawling miles than covering ground on FS roads.

 

We shall see.

I swear if I have one more serious front suspension failure it's getting cut off. Coilbuckets are probably the weak link currently, maybe not after a crossbrace. Also need to check the LCA mounts and make sure they're not ripping off the frame more than they were previously. Plus who knows what else...

 

I am truly surprised that my LCA mounts are still in decent shape.
