If student load is an issue might I suggest a change in scenery? Down here in Vegas my friends that are instructors full time have between 8-12 students at all time and if your willing to sacrifice a life for a bit can do 100+ hours a month.

That’s how I did it… 15+ years ago. The flight schools here have contracts with a school down here so it’s pretty much a guaranteed student load

Yeah, the school here is always hiring CFIs and has almost a year waiting list for students.

The only time I was pretty sure my time was up as a passenger was a flight into Heathrow. High wind advisories for all of western Europe. Unbelievable winds, rain, and night. Two go arounds and I was praying we would go anywhere else besides make it a third. My daughter was squeezing my hand and telling me she was scared. I was thinking me too honey, me too. Third time was a charm. Usually in Europe people clap (or did back then) when you land. Everyone was stunned and remained silent for quite a while. That place gets breezy.

Don’t you need a special add-on called CBS to land at Heathrow in high winds, “Certified Balls of Steel” if remember correctly?

I'm pretty sure you can get yours certified at the gate if you get the plane there in once piece.

Hi JB...I'm new to the site. Saw your pics from work. Do you have any reservations about flying Max8s these days? Also, I was curious..if a Capt can't hold a class 1 medical, can he still work as SIC with a class 2? I just "ordered" a 2022 SR5 on 1/25/22...dealer said possibly might be in next week...believe it when I see it! Fly safe!

    Welcome to the thread!

Awesome that you’re getting you’re own Cirrus! I hope to buy a plane someday as well.

To answer your questions……. I don’t have any problem flying the MAX. While it had problems, I believe they have been fixed, I feel well trained, and it’s a safe plane.

Generally, an airline probably would not hire a pilot if they could not upgrade to the captain seat due to medical limitations. This is not 100%, but generally true. A 2nd class could fly professionally in other places like flight instruction or right seat in charter, corporate, etc.
Captains that lose their first class medical often go on medical leave to get that worked out, and they return when that’s squared away. If you lost your first class, you likely can’t hold a 2nd class because there is little difference other than an EKG.

One of my buddies flies corporate for a job, and after a nasty divorce penned this list:

Ten Reasons Airplanes Are Better Than Women

    1. An airplane will kill you quickly, but a woman will take her time.
    2. Airplanes only whine when something is REALLY wrong.
    3. Airplanes come with operating manuals.
    4. Airplanes don't have in-laws.
    5. Airplanes don't mind if you "touch and go".
    6. Airplanes are fine if you use plugs in their intake and exhaust orifices.
    7. Airplanes don't mind if you use tie downs on them.
    8. Airplanes don't care about how many other airplanes you've flown.
    9. Airplanes don't mind you flying other airplanes.
    10. Airplanes don't mind it when you look at pictures and videos of other airplanes.

    Here is one for Helos:

Why Helicopters are Better than Women

    1. A helicopter will kill you quickly . . . a woman takes
    her time.

    2. Helicopters can be turned on by a flick of a switch.

    3. A helicopter does not get mad if you 'touch and go.'

    4. A helicopter does not object to a preflight inspection.

    5. Helicopters come with manuals.

    6. Helicopters have strict weight and balance limits.

    7. You can fly a helicopter any time of the month.

    8. Helicopters don't come with in-laws.

    9. Helicopters don't whine unless something is really
    wrong.

    10. Helicopters don't care about how many other helicopters
    you have flown.

    11. When flying, you and your helicopter both arrive at the
    same time.

    12. Helicopters don't mind if you look at other helicopters,
or if you buy helicopter magazines.

    13. It's OK to use tie-downs on your helicopter.

Yep, lots. Still was making 98% of the factory rated power, although it was making 109% before all the sand.

They did that all kinds of wrong.

Looked into it a little more - Utah Guard. If their lift guys are anything like their attack battalion I’m honestly not surprised at all. The attack guys were pretty trash last time I dealt with them.

Armchairing it, but it seems like they made lots of bad choices and then doubled down when things got weird. Unprepared landing at high altitude within rock throwing distance of civilians seems like a great way to be up on some dudes GoPro footage

first thought as a ground sar dude, is that's a bit close proximity to uncontrolled public, where a skier could pop into your danger zone rather quickly. Doesn't seem from my armchair that was a well planned exercise.
