I gave up. I wanted them to work but I didn’t want to mess with getting the wheels machined or using wheels spacers or grinding down the hub. I had to fight Toyota to get them to return the wheels since they were special order. Even though I only opened one box. I ended up keeping the stock wheels and getting new ko2s installed and I couldn’t be happier.

Superior Industries makes the makes the OEM wheels. Far from an aftermarket company.

Thats still an aftermarket company. Contracted by the OEM. If they are not owned by the manufacturer then they are aftermarket.

So a GKN locker is not OEM, but an Aisin transmission is? Got it...
In this context, you and I have differing definitions of aftermarket vs OEM.

I mean, my definition goes by the industry standard. But if you want to split hairs go right ahead. Stanley Electric Co is an aftermarket company, that is contracted by most vehicle manufacturers to make their factory equipped lighting.

Hopefully Toyota adds a disclaimer these wheels DO NOT fit the Tacoma. If they require machining they are definitely not a bolt on and go mod. At least the fix is easy for people who already bought them.

It you who choose to split hairs.
My original statement was, "Superior Industries makes the OEM wheels"...then you came in with your bullshit.

Anyone run the wheel spacer option? I have them on my truck but getting them off and on is a pain. I would like to fix it but don't want to grind my hub or put too large of a spacer on there cause I like the way they sit currently. Anyone got a link to a wheel spacer that would work but wouldn't push the wheels out that much?

Bora makes 1 inch spacer . But it will shove your wheels an inch out. No other choice except to bring wheels to machine shop or grind the hubs as posted previously

Man, I really want to keep the wheels but don't like those options. Might just get some Fuel Rebels and sell the TRD pro's.

    That's not how aftermarket works.

Original equipment manufacturer is the manufacturer of the original equipment. Toyota is the original manufacturer for many parts on the vehicle, but they are not the only OEM.

Companies like Enkei will often have OEM and aftermarket divisions. They occasionally even sell the same parts through both supply chains, but that doesn't mean they're the same. Even Toyota has OE and aftermarket parts, and again, they're not the same.

When a company sells a product to Toyota and that product gets installed at the factory, that's original equipment, and the company that sold it to Toyota is the original equipment manufacturer. It doesn't have to be Toyota.

The TRD wheels that this thread started with are Toyota aftermarket wheels (they are either PIO or DIO, 4Runner TRD Pro's leave the factory with black steel wheels as original equipment).

I bought these OEM TRD Pro wheels last week. Took to my tire dealer to have them installed and then got the call that they would not fit. I found this thread and forwarded to him. They did not want to do the grinding, but found a 1/4" spacer they feel will solve the problem. Will update when they are on. Hoping this works. Didn't take much research to find this isn't a fluke. Something has changed with these wheels specs.

how is the 1/4 spacer working out for you? Trying to install trd 17 on my sr5 now and they are super tight. Not sure what my options are since the trd rims are non refundable from the dealer :/

Sorry I forgot to give an update. The 1/4” spacer is working just fine. No issues at all and made the wheels fit.

I’m really not qualified to give advice on this issue. But I switched to this wheel partly because my Venomrex wheels rubbed due to the offset. Having too big of a spacer I imagine could have the same affect and cause rubbing. Would defer a more definitive answer to someone with a greater understanding of the issue.

So I think it is clear that the rear hub needs to be grinded to make these fit in the rear, but I am still unclear about the front...

Some say you need to remove the dust cap but it seems most people have not done anything to the front. Can anyone confirm what needs to be done in the front?

I am not worried about removing the dust cap, I think it will stay dry around the nut. If you were really worried about it you could remove the nut and put some rtv around the axle the put the nut back on, similar to what you do on most transfer case or diff flanges.

I know this is an old post, but it is a real WTF? moment. They won't grind down the hub, but they were willing to thrown on a spacer??:eek::eek: I would rip those things off immediately and either machine the wheels or grind the hub. Spacers are a bad, very bad idea.
