For connectivity to my apartments, years ago I brought in multiple phone lines, but nowadays nobody uses hardwired phones at all. Then the TV antennas came down in favor of cable TV, followed by AT&T Fiberoptic. That's the going thing now, along with Sonic Fiber, which piggybacked onto AT&T till they had enough customers to run their own fiber, so now we have both AT&T Fiberoptic & Sonic Fiber. It would be nice to have underground service, but that won't happen anytime soon here, which means that trees need to be manicured continuously to clear the jungles of cables. One thing we don't have and have no need for is satellite dishes, which thankfully have largely gone the way of hard wired phones.

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!

Ran some errands yesterday - nice to have a stretch of days with temps in the 50s. I'm definitely seeing signs of an early Spring here - spotted birds at the feeder that are normally not here until late March and also seeing some reddening of branches in our wild blueberries that heralds the restart of growth each year.

HughesNet has improved somewhat, trying to compete I suppose. Certain times of the day are better, same with the DSL we can't get any more. ATT used to supply it, but now they won't even service existing lines. We're the only house on the road that has a partial view of the southern sky, so HughesNet, and their voip phone it is. And of course, the price went up accordingly. Would love to have high speed whatever, like yesterday, it took most of the day to get new maps and software for my Garmin GPS.
I remember dial-up 56k speed, but in reality, it was more like 15k.

:pccoffee:  Well, the TP-Link stuff is in service. Speeds in the house definitely picked up, which I was not expecting -- but I'll take it!

We're pretty far out on the DSL run too, so speeds naturally stink. I pay only for the slowest service they offer because they can't actually deliver anything faster. I originally got two internet sources because I was on call 24x7x365 and needed to be online at a moment's notice. But now with all the power outages impacting cable service it's nice to have a backup even now that I'm retired. Plus, my wife has become somewhat addicted to texting and "Words With Friends". :censored: The good news on that front is that now I can charge new network gear to our home account instead of paying for it all out of just my pocket!

I like the look of Starlink from a service perspective; it fixes a lot of what is wrong with other satellite services. But they need to launch a ton of satellites to provide the bandwidth they advertise, and in so doing they litter up the night sky. Not enough people care about that though so they're getting away with it. If they ever offer service here I'd consider moving to it and dropping the landline/DSL.

    5G -- don't get me started...

Kinda sucks since from 60° tomorrow to 8” of snow Friday
Wish it would make up its mind.

I was on the list over a year. If you follow it, you'll see a pattern. It passed this rural area right by. They seem to be going for the population centers, like all the others. I look at their satellite map once in a while, it's the same old crapola.

Nice job on the headlight clearing. A UVA/UVB blocking sealant is a nice touch to prolong the hazing in the future. Looks like the vehicle has a lot of interstate or highway miles on the clock. The sealant needs to be applied every 6 months. I am the goto guy in the neighborhood for headlight cleaning. Amazing what a buffer and quality polishes will do for a headlight.

My son has one of the MacBook Pro laptops and we back it up to that as well as the cloud. I will have a 512GB SD card available this week for him to use in the MacBook. My new cell gets here on the 23rd and there is no micro SD card slot anymore so he gets the one from my phone.

Worst day fishing beats the best day at work all the time.

Have a few things to do around the home today and an appointment with the foot doctor.

NAP Dave!:anonymous: I know the Comcast technicians have a playbook to fix the problems but telling them what they need to do and 30 minutes later they did what I asked, and the problem was fixed gets old after a while. Just venting. What is said on TW stays on TW.

Fixed a problem with our main TV when streaming media yesterday and then attempted to fix a problem with a switch at the upstairs computer. Turnes out to be a wiring problem that I have to work on today. I am getting too old to crawl under desks to fix wiring problems.

There's 3 companies in my area competing for FTTH (fiber to the house) and are building it everywhere.
One is up and running in some areas and the others are still in the build stage.
With the competition, it should keep the prices reasonable.
In the area of 55-65 bucks a month for 1 gig to the house.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals and Gals! Well, looks to be a busy day if I want stuff done before the big chill! Took so long on the RAV, I didn't get to Lowe's, so there's two trips in one for today. Back to New Braunfels to the Audiologist for one more tweak. Need to get a WalMart run in there too. Then, get stuff covered and put up when I get home. And make dinner...

Thanks Tom - I'll do better for her next time. All I had on hand was simple cleaner and polish sealer. Over and over....

I'm with you, Mike. 87* today, and 35* by tomorrow morning! End of winter in Texas is where we get our "averages".

Finished the NAV system upgrade in the 2017 Avalon, at 5 years old it was time. Gor $42.39 delivered it was worth the cost. I purchased the upgrade here: Update 2021 TOYOTA Navigation Micro SD Card LATEST UPDATE OEM 86271 0E072 USA | eBay This did not change anything else in the entertainment system. All of my set destinations were still in the database. I could not find any info on how to unlock the SD card slot cover, so I took a chance and inserted a small thin screwdriver and pried from right to left. The cover is hinged and stayed in the radio trim bezel. The proceedure is easy and takes around 15 minutes.

With vehicle off remove the existing card and install the new card.
Start vehicle and you will receive a new software detected message. Move car to a safe place as the car need to be running or on for the next step.
Turn vehicle off then back on. Software will then load.
When it finishes loading there will be a restart prompt to bring the new software online. Easy process.

Damn, good to see a Taco actually loaded up and doing what trucks are designed to do - working, instead of just sitting there looking pretty.
