2018+ Front Emblem Black-out

Good-evening,

Has anyone attempted deleting the chrome on the front grill sensor? Would love to figure out how to do this. I can not stand chrome... I have taken the sensor apart. Seems to me its glued together. I hope there is an easy way. If its glued, i'm thinking about trying to heat it the separate the pieces like i done with my headlights.

 

I don’t recall which thread, but someone mentioned recently putting tint film over it without impacting it’s operation. Better than nothing, anyway!

Yea. I heard about the tint. I really want it to be completely black tho.

 

You ever figure out how to do this? I tried ordering this, but it isn't the correct size.

Someone on here did a few coats of plastidip over it until it was black

 

Never figured it out. Ended up giving up and dealing with the chrome.

 

Are you trying to black out just the Toyota logo, or the whole oval?

PlastiDip would work, but would also affect the TSS sensor.

Michael's and JoAnn Fabric both sell a ton of different color vinyl for vinyl cutting machines including matte or gloss black.

Once you've got the vinyl in hand, just take the grille apart, pop out the emblem, wrap it, and put everything back together.

I just used some of the self adhesive tint on mine to dull the chrome. A few minutes and an exacto knife worked for me.

 

This. I've blacked out practically everything on my truck, except that grille emblem. I find all the suggested solutions (tint film, Plasti-Dip, etc.) to be unsatisfactory.

So you want to delete the chrome... which would make it black... which in turn would make it ALL black... but you don't want a black circle... on a thread you created titled "Front Emblem Black Out"... so what exactly is it that you want?

 

"Front Emblem Chrome Delete" most likely.

 

Install a Pro grill like 50% of the other people on TW and be done with the chrome.

 

Did mine a while ago. No issues with TSS. It's not completely black but it really not shiny chrome either.

 

Yeah that makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that he says he wants it completely black, but does not what a black circle... lol. If he wanted to change the chrome to a different color, then I get it. But he specifically says completely black.
