No no… only maybe a couple ‘positioning’ step nails once up the tree, if needed (what you might call the ‘platform’). Sometimes some webbing foot loops or the right crotch in the tree is all I need. I climb the rope using ascenders to get up into position.

Does the rope ever get in the way of shooting?

No - once you’re in position the climbing rope can get pulled up and coiled outta the way. You’re then typically attached to the tree with your saddle yoke and a backup sling/tether or the tail of the climbing rope, which you can position anywhere.

You can’t cover every possible angle/lane, but if you set up right, you have very wide arcs in all directions just by pivoting/leaning on your anchor point.

I'm more than slightly scared of heights, I feel like I have to be inside something to make me feel safer (if that makes any sense); the armrest portion of my climber kinda makes me feel like I'm not as likely to fall.
Long story short; I think a saddle would scare the piss out of me!! But they selling the shit out of them!!

I’ve been climbing, caving, teaching rope rescue for decades… it’s my thing, but no one should do anything they’re not comfortable with.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
    Do you know them?

Funny story, the Keyboardist from Electric Hellfire Club is a very good friend and was a room mate of mine for years..met a lot of bands through him.

He's a cop in the woods of VA now.
