Aluminum bumper Q?

Okay so I have read all the pro and con threads on the material type but here is the question I am still left with. Some aluminum bumpers say they need steel reinforcement for the winch In turn adding more weight. Some don’t say that. So I have been looking at demello off-road aluminum 60ish lbs Baja bumper (beautiful design) and brute force steel bumper at 120lbs (I like the height of the bull bar for more protection). The demello dies say anything about said added reinforcement if running a winch. “Standard winch mount for 8000-10000lb winch (note winch solenoids will need remounted)Weight 40-60lbs depending on options”
Any one know if they had to add anything for the winch when running demello if so I may just go with steel if the end result is the same weight?? hope that made sense! That’s in advance for any input on this..

 

Thank you for considering ours. Let me see if I can answer some of these questions. The Aluminum bumper is roughly 45lbs the steel is only for the brackets that secure it to the frame. The winch plates and reinforcements work well to support a 8-10k winch. A winch with synthetic rope usually runs about 60-70lbs. totally 105-115lbs with fog lights and everything it's about 125ish depending on some other options. Now a steel bumper weighs around 110lbs with the brackets. They are built identical design wise. but the aluminum is thicker.

Oh also is there any chance you can custom make the upper loop taller? For more grill protection?

I have a Pelfreybilt aluminum bumper. The box for the winch is steel, everything else is thick aluminum. That seems to be the standard.

 

Backwoods adventures offers aluminum bumpers that are two piece. The winch cradle is steel while the bumper shell is aluminum. It comes in a little heavier at around ~80lbs probably due to the winch cradle. They offer full protection bars as well. Their pricing is also pretty competitive for the aluminum bumper world.

 

I like their stuff as well! I’m trying to stay California local so I can pick it up.. lol save money where I can..
