*Reading this thread I see a lot of folks saying I paid 'x' for said truck, but are those numbers quoted msrp or otd? If making a small down payment and financing for a long time I could see how someone would say the msrp was the cost because the real cost only raised their monthly payment a few beans and didn't really 'hurt.' But for a cash buyer $4-5000 in taxes and fees means you payed 'x' plus $4-5000 in taxes and fees. So I don't take these numbers very literally. (Ie: I doubt my wife could tell me exactly how much she paid for her car after taxes/fees and interest payed- but she remembers the price on the window sticker.)

I too am in the market for a new trdor 6mt dbl cab as prices for used are "more" than new. Here's the problem though: Of the 6-8 dealerships I have contacted in phoenix area (and further) all but one are charging 4-6k market adjustment (which I found can be talked down to around 1500 btw- but still). I did, however, find one that did not charge for this and emailed back and forth about a white trdor 6mt they had on allocation. So I said cool, I'll buy it at msrp when it arrives.

Enter: dealer add-ons, toyota accessories that you would otherwise not buy, and sales tax <-- the biggie! So I get a quote for the truck that is to arrive in 2 days and all the sudden the $39,296 truck is $45,477 otd. Not financing so otd is what I care about. So then its like, well, maybe it makes sense to but a used one for $40-42k with 3-10k miles which, yes, is more than msrp, BUT thousands less than the overall cost of the new vehicle otd.

    Here's their price breakdown:
    Sale price (msrp) 39,296
Options: 1597 (this is dealer adds- "protection package $699, Window tint $399, Some kind of wax 500, blah blah..."
Sales tax: 3429 (!) The main incentive to by private party with cash (or loan) is right here
    Fees (?) $1,155
    Net sale price: $45,477

Quick math tells us thats over $6k you are getting next to nothing for. (btw, that truck sold before I could even get to the dealership- no deposits accepted)

This is at the only dealer in phx that doesnt tack $5k onto all ^that^ stuff.

After knowing this, all the sudden that $42k private party truck with 3,000 miles and a 21' vs a '22 starts to look like your saving $3,000 vs spending $2k over msrp

Bottom line, bad time to buy. But the real question is: when, if ever, will there be a good time to buy? I bought a house in 2018 thinking the housing market was peaked and I was getting ripped off and it's done nothing but climb in value ever since. Just a thought...

Also, anyone in the phx area with a white double cab trdor 6mt (a must) with low miles that wants a reasonable price and a quick sale, message me.

Otd I payed $36,915 for my 2019. Pay in full.

I payed $851 otd for my 2022 after the trade for my 2022.

    That’s after every fee.

Thats a dealer that’s out for blood. No thanks on the windows tint etc. Theyre ripping ppl off. It cost me $80 to tint match my front factory windows….at a local tint shop. That was for the 3M Color Stable shit too.

Mountain States Toyota in Colorado is a good out of state option for you. I went out of state to buy my truck. It was 25k st up. Then I paid over 2k for licensing, use tax & registration once I got back to Colorado. Listed OTD price for me was 27,400, but when I told them I just wanted 30 day dealer tags & was ready to give a 25k check with no sales tax etc; from USAA; the dealer quickly agreed.

It sounds like you need to buy a truck out of state. Those bastards are raking it in. You don’t need those addons at FULL COST when they’re cheaper to buy them on sale & add them yourself 5 months later. The all weather floorliners… are a full price add on but for some reason they’re not that expensive from the online parts store…with the 20% off & free shipping. IMO that dealer is worse then the others because they’re being sneaky AF. They’re secretly ripping ppl off & acting like there not. When clearly it’s a tactic to raise the cost for the consumer just to put more $$$ in the dealers pocket.

IIRC, 2020 was the last year for tan, aka quicksand. So, you'd be shopping used anyways if QS was a must.

yeah I dunno. It says 2021 so I thought that’s what it was. I’d really like to get a Trd for the power outlet and other features but a used one is as much as a new SR5 I was looking at. And I don’t really off road. The ar5 makes more sense but I like the look of the Trd a lot better.

The bed outlet is practically useless being that it can only power up to 400 watts maximum. Don’t let that be any kind of deciding factor in the search process because you will quickly find that almost anything you want to power will trip the breaker and not work.
