Got the tint finished up this afternoon. Ended up tinting about 95% of the house windows. We skipped the kitchen, so we'd still get plenty of light for fruits and veggies to sun ripen in the window-sill. All the bedroom and bathroom windows were done with 15% so you can't see in at all during the day, but you can still see out. The rest were done in 30%, which is still darn near impossible to see in from the outside, but again you can still see out just fine. About $1300 all said and done and I no longer feel like I'm living in the fishbowl. We used Solar Guard TrueVue 30 and TrueVue 15.

Here's the 30% without and with the blinds from inside and outside. You can also see the pavers I put down last week as a yard divider.

Is it just rolls of film you buy or what? Been thinking about doing this on all my windows.

    EDIT: Wow that's pricy.

Pretty much, but residential tint is different than automotive tint. You'd have to google for an explanation on that though. I've also heard not to use ceramic tint on house windows as it absorbs heat and may cause windows to burst.
    https://www.solargard.com/product/truevue/

Anyway, the tint guys had huge rolls of film and some kind of measuring contraption that they placed on top of a ladder and then placed the rolls of tint inside of that. I assume that gave them a straight vertical edge.

The rolls appeared to be about 6-8 feet wide? They'd measure the width and cut that in the contraption and then pull down the tint from the roll in the measuring contraption leaving a little excess for length. The length was cut (horizontal cut) once it was squeegeed onto the window.

They also had a couple of Ryobi electric backpack sprayers full of tint application solution and used various sized squeegees and a basic blade to trim. They appeared to use a larger 4-6" squeegee the most. It looked like what you use to wash your windshield at the gas station only smaller and without the sponge side.

Kind of neat to watch actually.

Edit: Also lots of towels in the window sills to catch excess tint solution.

Oh you paid a crew to do it? How much did that run you for how many windows?

I was quoted $1700 for the entire house and they priced it by individual window as well. Single story home just under 2000 sq ft. nothing too complicated. I left a 3 large windows un-tinted as I didn't want the main kitchen windows tinted. (fruits and veggies wouldn't sun ripen in the window-sill.) I paid about $1300.

Also received 2 other quotes prior that were about $3k.

    I had the same question!

Some of the closets systems I have seen make the closet feel so small!! That being said, there will probably be drawers installed and cabinets so it will have a more finished feel. :fingerscrossed:

Above the safe is 2 cabinets and I think there is 4 drawers each in the valet system below the black shelves 9 or 10 hanging areas 26 or 27 shelves and interior lighting in the valet areas. And it all gets finished off with crown...

    Cuts made. Fits good.
Measure 100x. Cut a 16th at a time. Fits good. Relax.

I think Ive got myself talked into replacing the cheap contractor grade 6 panel doors that everybody has in their house.

Gonna use a cheap contractor grade 2 panel doors instead that not as many people have in their house. ;)
    15005289.jpg

Also cause I want matching doors. This house has a few of the newer 6 panel doors mixed with cheap unpainted luan bifolds and a couple of the original 1960's luan closet doors with about 1000 layers of paint on them, preventing them from closing properly. Also one still has remnants of the finger print dust the cops used after the break in, if you ever deal with that stuff its impossible to clean off and takes several coats of paint to hide. And frankly, anything to erase that day from my memory is a win in my book.

At least they came out. When our house got broken into about 15 years ago the police wouldn't even come out. "File a report" was their response.

They came out though its been 6 months with no update. With as much fingerprints and blood they got you'd think they'd atleast have a name by now.

Finally found a house after a year of searching, signed the lease yesterday.
One of our conditions was being able to build a fence extension in the back yard for the dog, so I'll be starting that project this weekend.

I haven't met the neighbors yet but I hope they're not anything like their dogs because the dogs are jackasses, I might have to get one of those hidden bird house dog whistle things and crank it up to 11.
