Ohh thats the first thing I thought of, especially since 1 extra spacers and I couldn't even grab a thread! That's a fight I don't even want to think about. My cousin works at the Toyota plant in Woodstock and he says that should have NEVER happened and is surprised because they take quality seriously, and its a super good paying job, so people are usually not screwing around!

haha sooo true! I just wonder if it was an honest mistake (which is super rare id say, just feeling the washers you can tell its super thick) or if it was on purpose.... almost like a ticking time bomb where it would just loose its grib and pop off running the engine dry

Toyota Canada was horrible to deal with...it honestly gave me a bad taste in my mouth and all I wanted to do is buy the "Pro" headlights in my package like the peeps in the US can. The rep was rude and pretty much said it couldn't be done and if I didn't like it, too bad. Again, I'm pretty easy going and in the grand scheme of things, Pro headlights wasn't a do or die, but it woulda been nice for me to pay more to get it from the factory. So for me to call them, I thought these guys are going to say it was me, and that would just turn me off to the brand (which I also have a Rav4 which we love) or the truck, which I also absolutely love.... the negatives would trump anything Toyota could offer me for a few washers that really didn't do any damage. Crap situation I was in eh :)

Haha I'm getting older and the stress of it would take more years off my life then anything...I cant even use them since they are so compressed (or glued) that they don't come off without needle nose pliers... Also, my dealer never told me about the free oil change so I just do them myself.

This is proof everyone who cares about their truck needs to learn to do their own maintenance or check over maintenance done by other people.

Correction. You don’t need to change the gasket each time so long as you have additional gaskets installed. This gentleman could have gone 6 changes without a new gasket. I believe they work/expire from the inside out if I’m not mistaken.

Isn't Turdgen 6.2QT? Stack enough washers and you can round it to 6.5

My 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport Premium built in May and delivered in June and was one of the last made in Texas before Toyota went full time building in Mexico. That is why I asked. Easy way to find out your VIN if it stars with a 5 made in Texas 3 made in Mexico. Just saying

    Wondered the same.

Any assembler worth their weight in salt would be slapping on oil pans with the plug/gasket installed already, which is why a new drain plug has matching black paint with the pan. And since that's pretty important, there are quality control measures that a company and a worker should have implemented. Count 10 pans, plugs, and washers and slap them together. Then assemble to motor. At the end of the 10, you got any leftover parts or missing any, you know how far back to check your work.

So that's one sub-assembly line, with their own quality control. How it got past there is a stretch, much less all the other points of assembly with their own inspectors.

I just can't fathom how many measures a modern manufacturing company has to keep stuff like this from reaching the customer, it borders on obscene! And still here we are.

I mean if that happened to every oil pan on every truck it would be an issue but this isn't a big deal at all or borderline obscene.

The quality measures border on obscene, not this instance.

Around John Deere, Toyota is considered the gold standard in manufacturing. Deere execs tour their plants. And even at Deere, this is basically impossible for a customer to see. And Deere is an absolute shit show.
