I follow up with my sales guy, at least via text, every 10-14 days just to remind him that I am still alive and looking for a truck. I also remind him that I'm tracking this forum, the inventory spreadsheet, and other dealers inventory... So far, he's been pretty responsive overall.

Been lurking for a while. I got lucky:

Walked in the dealership 1/6, put $1,000 down on a just allocated DCLB Barcelona Sport (only allocated vehicle without a deposit on it already. Wanted a Sport/LB, no other preferences).
Original week 4 build date delayed 1 week.
    Built first week in Feb.
    Arrived at dealer 2/21.
    Picked up 2/22.
$46k (premium sport w/ leather and moonroof, tech, LEDs, JBL audio, floor mats & door sills, 5” black tube steps). MSRP.

the guy is worthless. i go into the dealership and talk to the general sales manager and completely bypass the sales guy. I was in there last week and the sales manager knows who I am but doesn't sound confident they'll get an allocation for me anytime soon. A customer of mine is the used car sales manager's wife, so she got me in touch with him and he set me up with the bum sales guy bc he's a yes man and won't question my $1000 discount I'm slated to get. I am just on the list, no allocation and I don't think they'll get one. I hedged my bet and put a deposit down at another dealer on 1/7 again to be on a list, and i email with that guy a couple times a week. been a month and a half so hoping tomorrow's allocations has mine on there. I am in contact with sales people regularly from 4 other dealers as well but I'm not going to put down more than 2 deposits. My own fault for waiting to spread my seed past that first dealership. I didn't realize it was going to be such a debacle at first. Lesson learned, it's all good! I have a rental 4runner that my vehicle allowance at work pays for.

Yeah, profit wise, that's probably true - especially considering the Market Adjustment and forced port/dealer options that "can't be removed".

As stated multiple times, this is very much a Dealer Market right now. There are more than enough buyers and just not enough inventory for us to argue or haggle. They can always sell that truck to someone else, probably before you've even left the lot.

I have found that they are producing more Sport and Off Road trims than the Pro. Not many moon rock, blue crush or Red. Seem to be the main colors white, black, grey, silver. Not to mention hardly anything manuals. Seems they are going for the ones that “sell more” and not the higher priced Pros. I haven’t even heard a Limited being mentioned. But I could be mistaken.

Someone mentioned yesterday they have a WCP DCLB Sport being built on the 28th. THAT is the real unicorn.

I set the XM radio channels to Classic Rock. Does that count?
I checked Carmax and was offered $2,500 more than the sticker price on my 2020 Rav4 with 23K on it. So the search was on. Nothing local in Des Moines so I checked Cars.com and found some at dealers close by, but none were really there. It seemed a dealer in Bellevue, NB, about 2 hours away, had six, so I called them up. Salesman said they had no Tacomas but some were in transit and not sold. I asked him what that meant and he said they are built, but on a lot somewhere. He read me the list of these Tacomas on the lot somewhere and one really stood out. In fact, it had everything I would have ordered if I had, even the white color. We haggled over the phone and I sent him a picture of my Carmax offer for $34,800. He said they had some added "Market Value" built into some of their vehicles and were getting offers from the west coast for these trucks that were in transit. He said they wanted to keep them in their service territory and Des Moines was supposedly in their service territory. So I says how much cash and trade and he comes back with how much will you pay. I called him back 30 mins later and told him $XXX out the door. No sense trying to dicker with the value of my vehicle and the value of his vehicle with "Market Value" added and the closing fees and more. He has to talk to the sales boss and calls back with $XXX. I says I'll take it and sent him $1,000 on a credit card. He says 2-4 weeks for the truck which was now found to be in San Diego. I calls back after 2 weeks and he says still on the lot. I calls back after 4 weeks and he says its on the truck and will be there in 2-3 days. And it was. Picked it up just before Thanksgiving. Gotta say that Corwin Toyota treated me pretty good. I think I got a really good deal on the transaction. The only pic I have is one from the Toyota build. 2022 TRD Sport.

Wow! 128 pages of allocation snafus!

I'm greener than grass when it comes to a Tacoma. Owned trucks since 82. Put $500 down on a traded "hopefully" allocation for a DCLB. I'm hoping for late April.

More fun threads to read through.

Central MS. Have NO idea where the dealer is going to do a "trade" to get this truck. My Zip Code search, couldn't find a long wheel base with 4 doors and 4 WD anywhere. Checked Atlanta and Dallas dealers . . . Just watched the allocation video about 6 or 7 pages back, real eye opener, no ordering a truck, just buy what they build if it's close to what you want.

Im in the DFW area. The dealers that have the more loaded ones are asking 5-8k over msrp. I had one on allocation from 2 dealers with no deposit but no hope of find a LR DCSB Premium pacakge. I started looking all over the country and found one same week and was lucky enough to get my deposit in first. Apparently they had just got notice they were getting it and was yet to be built. I've been told by a lot dealers in Texas the OFFROAD and 4wd in general are hard to get here. So I started looking across the country in snow/mountainess states.

Just got an update. Truck was last seen in Clovis NM on the 20th. Says it will now arrive on the 16th of March so delay from original time of March 8th-13th. It’s to be expected. Getting closer though

What trim are you waiting on? Seems like PROs have gotten pushed more than others. The OR I ended up with (picking up this week, it made it to the dealership yesterday) was a build week 6. Also, if you're looking for a MT or a long bed...some of that I think is done in smaller batches than the main auto/double cab/short bed that people are buying.
