Being in this hellhole industry was my main FIRE motivator. Now that I no longer *need* the wages they pay me in order to remain out of poverty, we have a very different relationship. I would summarize it as "fuck you, pay me."

I show up on time, I do my job, I leave on time. I don't do favors. I don't pick up other people's slack, I don't bully or bullshit or politic. I'm not interested in making friends, just getting along enough to get the work done. They are not my 'family'. It's just work and it's going to stay that way.

 

I've got that same attitude, minus the safety net. All made possible by staying child-free and single (not a brag.)

Hopefully I can find a nice pawg one day and we can run a baller-ass DINK household.

 

This is the way. My wife and I are running a Dink household. She manages a bank, I do Construction sales. We have all the toys we want and dont really stress about money. I come to work do my job and go home. If I want to take a week off from work I can do so and not worry about getting paid.

 

I wouldn't force either one. I'm married with a kid, but I used to be childfree and single. They are both great for different reasons. If you're happy, do you. I stumbled over a woman when I was 30, and COMPLETELY focused on myself and my happiness, that I eventually came to want to marry and have a kid with. But immediately prior to that, I wasn't at all sure I would ever marry or have a family. And I was fine with that, because I was having a great time.

 

It’s funny, if you don’t have kids, that sounds great. If you do have kids, it doesn’t.

 

Yeah I can see that. Luckily never had any so I dont know the other side of what I am missing. And as of Friday the 4th the deal will be sealed.

Had a chat with my friend the financial advisor. Forgot to ask about GME as a long term strat, damn it!

But he did get me some tools to use to make a financial plan, and got me to not close my trading accounts. I'm just gonna take a step back from being active in them for now. I'll be 40 this year and haven't ever really made any personal finance plans, or ever had an adviser....I guess I've been lucky. After I get my personal stuff in order, he's gonna help me with trading strategies and actually staying on them. Hopefully having a coach will keep some of my bad money decisions at bay.

 

There is SO MUCH TRUTH in this statement.

I can't imagine not having kids at this point. Most challenging, but most rewarding thing I have ever done. We are a family of 5 on a single income and somehow I still have money to gamble in this crappy casino each month.
