Started having the occasional rough starts about a year ago where the engine would fire right up, and then, within a second, stutter and die. Usually within a couple rounds of cranking, it would fire up and be good to go. The problem became more frequent this fall and then as of recently it's to the point where you can count on a rough start- at times it would take as long as 15-20 minutes cranking on and off for it to fire up. Idles and drives fine once it decides to start up. There's no real consistency in when it will happen - warm, cold, after long sits, after short sits... Have checked hoses for vacuum leaks (found one split and replaced in early stages of problem), changed Maf, new plugs, new injectors, new 02 sensor, removed cleaned throttle body and IAC with new gaskets. Tired of shotgunning parts, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Last time I pulled codes I got :
    PO100
    PO110
    PO441
    PO442
    PO446

Mine did the same thing....has yours ever overheated ,mine did , then thats when all the hard start begun. One day id go out and would start perfectly the next barley start then run very rough. It ran 5 months that way till ot gave out. Had warped head. Check your coolant and keep an eye on it. If no usage its ssomething else.

No overheating ever. Only time I've ever lost any coolant is when I removed the coolant hoses from the IAC.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld
The EVAP codes P0441, P0442 and P0446 often happen as a result of pumping more gas after the pump clicks off the first time.
Is your charcoal cannister above the gas tank or under the hood? @Jbax504

I'm honestly not sure. I'm familiar with what you are talking about, as I came across the Charcoal canister threads when the problem first started (I was guilty of always "topping off" the tank after first click) I quit doing that and thought that solved it, until it resurfaced this fall

There's an 8mm id hose plugged into the side of the air filter box that will flood the box with EVAP gas vapor.
Unplug the hose from air box, remove cover and filter before a start up to see if it's getting flooded.

The hose I believe you are talking about, I believe it's the same hose that I replaced. It was split wide open and barely hanging on. It ran to a solid tube that ran across the top of the radiator to the driver's side into maybe a purge valve? Fixing that may have coincided with the uptick in rough starts but I can't remember exactly when I did that... Either way I won't be able to do much troubleshooting today. Sleet/freezing rain through tomorrow, no garage. Thanks for giving me somewhere to start

So winter weather be damned, I went to try and start it when I got home (having to drive my ram to and from work) undid the hose, removed filter box cover and filter, tried to start. Same-start then die, start then die. But this time when it did start it did not want to stay running without giving throttle (it is 14 degrees out, and it's only been 2 days since clean TB and new injectors, so maybe ecm is still getting acquainted) after feeding throttle for several seconds it evened out and has now been idling fine for 15 minutes.

Put the air box back together and leave the EVAP hose off box.
See how it starts in the morning.

Ok I'll try that. Will note that after shutting off and trying to start again, it fired right up

    Replace the Purge Selnoid.
Gas vapors have been flooding the air box.
Never add more fuel after pump clicks off the first time.
:fingerscrossed: the charcoal cannister isn't chunked, powdered or full of raw gas.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Start replacing other dry rotted vacuum lines

Started this morning on first try with gas cap off. I have ordered the hose kit, and will order the purge solenoid today - hopefully get it put on this weekend. Will post follow up when I do. Thanks again for all the help.

UPDATE : sorry for the delay-O'Reilly's ordered in the wrong parts *twice* so I ended up ordering online and had to wait for them to be shipped. I changed out the hoses in the mean time. I was finally able to install new purge solenoid and vacuum switching valve on the 5th, and have driven it the last 11 days. So far, so good. Has been firing right up (there were two mornings when the temps were in the teens that it had a little bit of a rough idle after starting, but a tap of the throttle brought it out of it). Have gone through 2 tanks of fuel and averaged 21.6mpg. CEL still off. Thanks again for the help!
