DIY cam washer nozzle

It's definitely not a must have mod for everyone, but on muddy narrow trails, with tons of equipments on board block sight, may help for backup without a spotter. Just like why we buy LED bars, also not for daily in city use.


*Before the final setup, I tested only use T connector /4m long tube direct connect to front windshield washer tube, due to tube was too long , have water inside, but pressure of small OE pump not enough to run. And if the rear nozzle position lower than res, water will dripping out.

Parts cost around $50, just share the idea, if someone need this modification, here is the key points :

1. when open tailgate , nozzle start dripping water , that's why the route of tube in the bed higher than the pump.

2. Positive + wire route:
Pump+ to switch(on dash /port 1)
Switch(port 2)to backup light+

When in Reverse, backup light+ supply 12v to switch, press switch , then added nozzle works.
When Not in reverse, press switch no power.

3. - wire direct to body behind taillight.

4. For suv /minivan , may be only need T connectors/ short tube / nozzle, connect to rear window wash tube. No pump or res needed.

5. same idea can be use to DIY headlight wash or anytime front camera wash, like OE jeep gladiator front camera wash nozzle.
Direct connect in engine bay, tube may have enough pressure, not tested. Also can be DIY on any automobiles even RV as needed.

6. This setup can be hide into decked cubby. Thanks u guys for great advice.but I would like to see the level and fill up easier, and I don't mind how it looks.

7. drill a hole for the tube go through from tailgate to bed is not needed. But for nozzle installation, yes.

8. Brought extra 4 meter black tube , didn't use clear tube in package. 4 meter should long enough for even full size pickup to DIY.

9.if put the nozzle more sideways, might also clean the tailgate handle at the same time.

For a weekend cheap project, why not?

I bet with some searching at a pick-a-part wrecking yard a tank could be found that would hide in the tailgate.

 

I need this. Damn thing is useless after a 2 mile drive for most the year where I live. If there was a way to hide that res in the bed, or even use the res from up front, Id like to think I could attempt it. I'm the opposite of good with wiring that kind of stuff though.

This already has more instructions than anything that we do not speak of ever offered. If it was theirs, they would just post "taking preorders now" and show a pic of the tailgate photoshopped.

I wonder if you could mount this 3-way solenoid off of the factory tubing and then just run hose from the pump to the tailgate. Then add a new momentary dash button that activates the solenoid and washer pump.

Asking for a friend; Is a dirty back up cam lens really that big of a problem? Even if it does get a bit grimy, I can see what I need to see when backing up (cars, houses, overweight Wal-mart shoppers, etc).

PS: I try to remember to wipe mine with a Kleenex when I put gas in the truck.

It gets pretty bad sometimes. I like mine, I'd like to see out of it after a long drive, but it's pretty common for any vehicle that has them. Still, pretty cool idea and would be nice to see on future vehicles with back up camera.

 

Mine is virtually unusable 6 months of the year. I would have to clean it every time I move the truck.

 

Well, I guess there are some areas of the country where this would come in handy. Down here in the sunny South, I would have a hard time justifying the effort.

I lick my finger and wipe mine off when walking past the tailgate pretty regularly, so my system is already pretty effective.

I think I saw someone do the headlight washer mod a few years ago.

 

I didn't watch the vid. Just saw all the infrastructure added to the bed when I saw the thumbnail. All for squirtin' a tiny camera lens the size of a dime.

 

I miss headlight wipers and/or flip up headlights. /s
But I've definitely noticed the taco gets winter spray all over the headlights more than some previous vehicles I've owned. Lack of heat, but even that doesn't do much good during winter. I try to wipe the headlights/taillights off regularly before most trips. But I'd trade in for a taco with those badass flip up style lights any day haha.
