Okay, I know all of the ribbing is in fun, but geez folks, those of you who drive Tacomas with autotragic transmissions really have no foundation to cast aspersions at someone who'd rather stir his own gears than muck around with a wiper stalk.

yep! And since you refer to automatics as "autotragic" in multiple posts (and threads) and seem to think driving a manual gives you bragging rights (there is a thread for that btw) but you want assistance with other driving techniques... you get no sympathy and your complaining is laughable.

Since you desire clarity, I could care less. I stated I've had it before and it was problematic. I've seen others that could care less and some do work better than others. Do you also not use cruise control? I mean, you want control over gear selection so bad, why would you not want control over wiper speed, and since you brag about driving a manual why would you need cruise control? Or blind spot monitoring... because you have mirrors and your head swivels. So which is it? Do you need assistance or not? Lastly, autos can be driven in S mode. Not quite a manual, but it gets the job done if you really "rather stir (your) own gears than muck around with a wiper stalk"...

    Just sayin
    :bananadead:

    *Edit
I'm not opposed to it. I've had one that was poorly implemented. I don't NEED it. If it worked properly then whatever. But I'm not going to act like it's SOOOOO hard to do myself or that having a certain type of transmission means anything.

Not quite sure how this thread turned into another random pissing match, but I got a fat blunt ready to go for this evening's entertainment!

My wife's RAV4 has rain sensing wipers. Anyone know where the sensor would be located? In the windshield? Thanks

Had a 2010 Mazda 3 with rain sensing wipers and the were horrible compared to the newer models. We have a 21 CX-30 that they work pretty well on. The auto brights have a setting deep in the bowels of the infotainment system to turn off permanently. The other new "feature" that drives me nuts is the auto parking brake. If they can make a car set the parking brake when it gets turned off, why is it so hard to have it release when you put your foot on the brake to put the car in gear?

I will have to look into that. I haven't fully explored that infotainment system yet. :anonymous:

The parking brake thing is weird on ours. I think the dealer told us that if everyone buckles their seatbelts before it goes in gear, the brake auto releases. If not, you have to push the button. Weird stuff. (I haven't tried it with the seatbelt undone yet to confirm. But it does release when I put it in gear.)

Oh man that's pretty crazy. Could be worse though... could be one of those digital e-brakes. At least it doesn't set the auto brake like some stupid auto start/stop (A.S.S.) feature and has to be off to do it. I had that previously on a Subaru and it was terrible! You could disable it but you have to do it every time you restart. And if you left it on then it would do it when you didn't think it would, and when you thought it should it wouldn't... It would also jump forward a bit when starting back up because you have to release the brake a little. So many times you look like the idiot at a light that can't drive a stick because the auto start takes a good 3 or 4 seconds to get you rolling unless you timed it just right and nudged off the brakes to force a start. Also, if you mentioned that you disliked that feature on the Subaru forums, you were against all technological advances known to man. I also did the math... and over 200k you would basically save a quarter tank of gas assuming it worked flawlessly. Not even worth it. They didn't like math over there either...

lol. You mean no auto seat belts? What ever happened to that? Those things were awesome. Hey, at least the US doesn't require everyone's seat belts to be a reflective bright orange color... yet....

The wife’s RDX auto sets and releases the parking brake (I’m pretty sure). If you kill the ignition in gear, it puts the transmission in park for you.

So it can be done. I guess it’s like the door thing and Toyota killing the engine for ‘safety’ after a remote start. Just depends on how they implement.

If a feature can be automated and it improves the experience, then I say why not if it’s safe and reliable.

The automatic in my wife’s RDX improves the experience. The manual in my cayman improves the experience. A well tuned auto wiper would improve the experience in both. A poorly tuned automatic climate control would reduce the experience in both. I’m okay with reliable automation when appropriate.

Had rain sensing wipers on my Touareg. Hated it and never used them. Similar to the Auto highbeams on the Tacoma - will never use them.

    Check build thread!
Assuming your old bosses was a WK (05-10), I had the same one, and can probably explain why they sucked so bad.

They have a setting in the dashboard cluster that is somewhat hard to find, but it controls how sensitive they are. It has 7 settings, and from factory, comes absolutely C R A N K E D to the max. The first time I drove mine, I genuinely thought someone broke my windshield washer knob somehow. I found that setting, turned it to a much lower sensitivity, and boom, worked great. Now, if that Jeep wasn’t a massive rust bucket, went through 2 trans in 40k km, and cost me 8k in repairs over 5 months, I would still be driving it.
