I read somewhere it doesn't really affect media unless you're actively exporting or importing

Meh, i dont think so. I just think sarcasm doesn't translate well without tone of voice and especially with strangers over the internet. I thought you were hilarious

Yeah tbh I do it all the time by accident lol. The memory card I use the most at work must have been yanked out without ejecting 100 times by now

I believe Tyler is right, it's only really a risk if its actively being used...like if you pull it out before it's done exporting.

I wouldn't want to risk it with a backup drive though personally

I've had read issues after doing it on certain drives but a restart solves it. 99% of the time the only annoyance is clicking the little warning away.

true, usually just ejecting it only takes a couple seconds anyway unless it for some reason decides to take forever. In which case if I'm impatient I might just force eject it.

we have this crazy Pegasus R6 backup drive system at work for photo, one time I accidentally pulled the cord on it out of the computer without shutting it down first, I swear you'd think it threatened me with a self-destruct mode

Another slight of the history books, it was a moth in a relay impeding its operation. One of the many instances in time where a woman was being funny (Grace Hooper coined the term) when the moth was removed she said they "debugged" it  punny as shit but she doesn't get credit for it

Although Google honored her in 2013 with the Google doodle header thing (which is where I learned about it)

Yeah I usually do it on accident, like when I'm using an adapter and I just pull that without thinking about what's plugged in. Whoops.
