I was just looking on there actually. I've never bought from them so that's great to hear. I also like that they can ship stuff pretty cheaply especially if its close. I can swing something newer/new-ish, which I've never been able to do before, and for a second/dd I don't want a project anyway. I've just been a bit all over with exactly what I want. I'm often my own worst enemy in that regard.

That's a big bonus. I'd rather it be on me to keep an eye out to nail down what I want and know I'm not going to have to haggle as well.

Yeah, I'm not surprised that they've sold some duds, or that there are some sleazy (or ignorant) salespeople in the company. Sorry to hear your sister got the short straw.

I got mine in 2009 and still have it. It's been great except for a leaky water pump that led to overheating issues and head work and a leaky windshield due to a previous replacement that allowed rust to form. Both of those things happened 10 years after I bought the car. The overheating problems were partly my fault for being ignorant of the problem (I wasn't watching my coolant levels) and partly a shop's fault for misdiagnosing and failing to fix the leak.

My sister also bought a car from CarMax and has had hers for at least five, maybe approaching ten years with no out-of-the-ordinary issues.

I found that lurking for a while and looking at pictures helped me sort out what I wanted. Their pictures are great.

Of course, like @Blue92 pointed out, it's still a used car. Inspect it, look at the history, etc. I think you'll be out the transfer cost if you decline to purchase after they move it, but from what I remember you have no obligation to buy just because they moved it.

Yep it just says non-refundable transfer, which is fine. Once I settle on exactly what I want it'll help a ton, then just wait until a clean example with good history pops up. I'm not looking at real high mile, multi-owner stuff as it is, so that helps out of the gate.
I do get interested in too many makes/models as options sometimes.

Don't be afraid to look outside your region. I've drove many vehicles back home hundreds of miles and even had a friend look and purchase a vehicle 250 miles away. I'm sure some of us would be willing to look at a vehicle and possibly hold it for pickup.

Yeah I'm in VA and found my Tacoma in TX. Looking outside of the area is always a big help. Plus we have tons of used stuff come from northern auctions = rust and corrosion.

I've bounced around...different Subarus, MK7/7.5 GTI, Mazda, Lexus. Some wagons.
I like hatch's and wagons more than sedans.

Me personally, I wouldnt buy anything that needs higher octane fuels right now. Atleast for a daily. The cost would negate the purpose of a daily imo. Im glad I sold my Acura for that reason.

Can't tell how many CarFaxes I've looked at when I thought I'd found a match that ended up being NY/NH/PA etc. Nope!

I remember looking at an RDX cause it had a turbo. Never found one priced low enough to entice me.
