I'll be selling a X500 in the near future. I bet it'd pull that trailer (empty) but stopping would be a question if you are on incline since X500 doesn't weigh much more than your trailer. It has done fine for me pulling a garden cart full of fill dirt or firewood.

 

What do you all use to hook chain on loader bucket?

I have a Kubota BX2380. Been enough times that some hooks or something to secure chains better would have felt safer.

 

I welded a 3/4" x 3" plate across the top of my bucket for reinforcement and welded some hooks near the edge on top. I also put a receiver hitch in the middle with a clevis I run the chain through. If I remember I'll get some photos. You can buy hooks to weld on.

Weld on hooks are cheap.

I like the simple weld on idea but Kubota has a formed lip across top of this bucket so I'd have to fab a sturdy spacer to raise the hook back face flush or above that lip. Looks like the bolt on option already accounts for it in their design.

Think I should add an edge bar on bottom of bucket too so I don't bend up the bucket itself against rocks or roots.

All these little things I never thought about being add-ons when I was using someone else's machine and didn't think to look for when I got my tractor.

This pic is from the bolt on hook site and shows that lip I was talking about on Kubota's bucket.
I suppose I could look for scrap rectangle tubing and plate to weld to my bucket and then weld the hook to it. For the amount of effort, seems worth the $50 to buy the bolt on which will also have the zinc plating on it.

My first job out of college was at a company that made steel subassemblies for Kubota, CNH, Komatsu, and others.

From what I saw, I'd say you can blame the gov't interference and "green" efforts for at least half the stuff that doesn't last anymore on what should otherwise be durable equipment.

 

I finally got around to installing this carb Saturday and the mower wouldn't start. Ordered a fuel pump and new filter and installed it lastnight. Runs great now. At least I know the carb is clean


As easy as it was for me to check the fuel pump to see if it was working I am kicking myself for not checking it first

Last time I got leaves up with it the only way it would run at all was with the choke on. I just assumed one of the jets was clogged in the carb. Lesson learned.

 

I keep seeing that magic 16', which just seems massive for such a small tractor. Maybe 12' w/ 3pt arms and loader? You could make it even smaller by putting the loader on a deck rail or removing the bucket and putting it in the bed of the truck. All the sneaky variables make a 3,500lb tow rating unable to pull a 2,000lb load.

I'll trust the experts though.

What is the best way to get a used tractor? Online like tractorhouse or through a local dealer finding one in their network? How to ship one?

 

Also kicking myself hard for not considering used a year ago. This is the worst time to try and buy anything at all.

 

This is a 12 footer. I would never want to put that tractor on one this size.

16' gives you room to move the tractor forward or backwards to give you proper load position. That's not possible with a 12 footer.

2 axles under a 12' trailer is pretty rare as well.

 

A guy who is gone now made this trailer in 1981, he made it low with 2 axles for his father in law to get watermelons on. I bought it for $400 about 20 years ago. It's 6' x 12'. I added the rear ramps.

I agree, you rarely see 12' double axle trailers.

 

I agree with the others, 16' is the minimum I would want for a small tractor with a loader, especially if you have something hooked to the rear of the tractor.

You can reach out to some local dealers and ask them to let you know if they get a good trade in or look on their websites for used tractors. I found a nice J.D. that way once and went and drove it and brought it home. You can also search marketplace and c-list in your area. As far as shipping one, I don't know.

 

I think local dealer is going to be the best bet. I can see it before I buy it, and having them deliver it to me would be cheaper than shipping one from online from several states away.

There is a 1023e with loader, minus mower, at my local JD dealer. 2019 with 50 hrs on it and they want $13,800. To me that seems like a deal for such low hours, considering new it would be $22k+. They want $3500 to put a belly mower on it though...

This silly little tow rating sure makes it difficult to do anything useful. The V6 trucks with same chassis, brakes, suspension, and drivetrain behind transmission have nearly double the capacity. Only real difference is engine and a couple hundred pounds in curb weight. I wouldn't hesitate to drive a few states away to pick up a tractor if I knew the truck could handle it.

Then again, maybe I'm just dreaming and the cub XT3 is what I really need.

 

I hauled this 16ft square top tube tandem trailer loaded with my 1500lb 3240 loader GT and 800lb 3205 mule as well as a 100lb box blade and dump cart which probably weighed 100lbs behind my 2.7/5MT 2017 Taco 4x4. It was too much and my clutch was smoking. 2500lbs plus the weight of the trailer.

I hauled just the 1500lb loader another time and it was fine. A 1000series JD SCUT with loader weighs ~1700-2000lbs without wheel ballast.

 

Thanks to all who responded. I knew the tractor was from the Manheim works in Germany. Strangely most of the fasteners are SAE sized. I'm glad I don't have to source that thermo start doo dad.

I wondered about just joining the line from the injector rail to the fuel return line, but the pressure difference might not be good to play with. REturn fuel to the tank at high pressure would likely result in fuel spray if you happened to open the fuel cap when running.

 

Picked up a riding lawnmower. Small and nothing special but should get the job done
