3rd gen ECT power and S mode rev matching

From my experience, it would appear that my 2020 OR AT rev matches when I downshift during braking in s mode but only if ECT power is on. (I don’t have a tune.) (I kinda drive this think like a race car so I brake hard and downshift pretty often before corners) anyone else experience this? I’m asking because I have never heard anyone talk about it even though it’s a nice feature. Thanks

I’m probably the last person you would think would own a Tacoma right! I’m in this weird spot where I love fast cars and driving but also do a lot of outdoors stuff like clay shooting and turkey hunting so I gotta have a truck.

We complain about gear hunting when we break rule #1.

 

Mine doesn’t gear hunt at all. Is it because it’s a 2020. I hear people talking about this all the time.

 

i noticed that too. might be useful when towing.

mine will gear hunt if i drive like a grandma too much. it adapts to your style so i try to push the pedal hard when accelerating.

 

What does it actually change when adapting to your driving style, the shift points?

 

I’m skeptical about any “learning” going on. Sounds like a sales/service writer line.

 

I do find the auto Tacoma can be quite fun and sporty, and then I think about maintaining my awesome 17.4 mpg average.
