I think i dread the salt more than the shoveling. Every day i see residual white crust on the asphalt from the last storm, I’m grateful i took the time to cosmoline my truck. I forgot to do the tow ball and it is now very rusty after only half (two-thirds?) of a winter here.

It was like 60 out this week but I knew enough not to get excited. Long way to go till Spring.

Unless you’re towing, take it off the truck when not in use. Otherwise, it’s just a damage multiplier and a knee knocker in parking lots.

Sometimes when I know I'm parking in the city I'll leave mine on to prevent the Boston bump and gives room when people park right on you.

Totally agree about the shin buster.

Edit: you must be pretty short to be busting knees:rofl:
I kid, I've bashed everything possible on the hitch.
Had the beaver tail and that hurt bad enough to give away.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Good snowy morning everyone! I've been driving in this stuff almost all night. It started right near Syracuse and I'm taking a break in Natick. I'm on my way to Boston (N Reading actually) and then to Providence (Cumberland) RI.

Hey now... I'm a towering 5' 8" or 5' 9", depending on which convenient store I'm leaving! I really only ever use the weight distribution setup so I rarely leave it installed. I do keep a standard ball mount in the truck though, just in case.

Safe travels, lots of nuts on the roads!

I hit 4WD to get out my neighborhood, back to 2WD, got like 5% squirrelly for a second and just dropped it into 4 Wheel for the rest of the ride, the roads were bad enough I didn't need to think if it was clear enough that I should be back in 2 wheel. No bueno. Main roads...through East Providence .... there's gonna be cars sliding left and right, glad I got in early.

Our superintendent said to take a day or work from home tomorrow, so I stayed until almost 9 last night trying to get through the stuff that I needed to do in person. I may make that count towards my day today.

It's coming down really quickly here. I walked out to bring some additional trash to the road an hour or so ago and my footprints are mostly gone.

Well I do use it shuffle boats around but I’ve been leaving it out because, like @GarlicFarts said, I have to park on the street here in Boston and its bad. A lot of folks from out-of-state moved to the neighborhood in recent years (into the new ugly, huge apartment complexes on East Boston’s waterfront) and it seems like they are new to parallel parking and i regularly see them banging into other cars.

Interestingly, most of the new vehicles, when they showed up had NY and CT plates before they got their cars registered. I’m assuming they were from upstate NY and the CT suburbs because goddamn they are so bad at parallel parking. Kind of funny actually, i’ll watch out my window as someone tries to fit a sedan in a 25ft long spot, cuts the angle wrong twice, gives up and drives away.
I’ve seen folks bang the car behind them in reverse so had that the car they hit shakes. My parents’ suburu got side swiped while parked so I decided to keep my zero degree rock sliders on as yuppie protection. Watched a drunk guy on one of those rental city bicycles almost crash into my truck this past weekend. The situation is rough out here hahaha

I used to live near the city, I called it braille parking (park by touch). Never thought I had a need for a plate bumper until I had to park on the street. People absolutely suck the way they bang into someone else's vehicle and never even give it a second thought.

Don't get me started about that apocalypse

I call it park by braille, my brother in law had a mazda 3 and I told him that one and it made him chuckle.

It is a nice deterrent. Just a truck is a nice deterrent in most cases :notsure: people are scared of us big angry nasty trok owners.

That’s funny you used that pic. About a month ago I stayed in NYC next to a BMW dealer, and in the morning there was a long parade going to the dealership, and about half had that mat. I figured it was a BMW port option.

They're probably standard on the BMW's because they're more likely to do the whole 'park by touch' thing. Stolen from the meme thread:

As a NY transplant I can tell you those bumper pads are on every other car down in the city, also those NY plates have to be Hudson Valley nerds cuz every city driver I've ever known personally can parallel park like no one's business without thinking about it (gotta be quick to get a spot out there :anonymous:). CT drivers though, no comment
Oh, I keep my hitch in for bumper protection as well, sliders are angled but only 15/20° so there's still protection from those as well. Though I wouldn't REALLY mind someone paying for a new one for me...

I struggle with the people who leave those pads on when they’re on the highway. They’ll do just as much damage flapping around to the paint as a bump will do.

I was impressed with the Nokians this morning. Only once did I even feel like I wasn’t on dry pavement and it was due to being more aggressive than I needed to be on an initial turn in that I felt the snow a bit. I’m sure as it gets colder I’ll need 4WD, but I was feeling pretty good about things.

It's turned to rain here now (Milford) and the temp is dropping. I'm really not looking forward to driving home. I'm going to try to leave soon so I can get out ahead of the hard freeze.
