Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Op, I’m kinda in same boat. I’ll probably be buying my lease out due to this current market. While in for scheduled maintenance recently I sat down with the finance manager on warranties. And I operated his computer screen. There’s no “ it costs this, but I’ll give you this”. Cost all depends on how many miles on truck, length of warranty, and level or coverage you want. If I remember right numbers he gave me for the Platinum 10yr/100k we’re about what you got. They printed everything out for me to take and think about.
Sit down with them and look at their screen.

And btw, none of the Toyota warranties cover regular service requirements such as fluids, tires, etc.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I just bought a 22 RAV4 AWD for my wife on Tuesday. I went in to it with the mentality I wasn't adding ANYTHING to the deal, just the car as it came off the truck is what I told the salesman. It was easy consummating the deal that way and of course, in F&I, the rep hit me up for all the add-on BS. I have the 10/125k TFS Platinum VSA on my new Taco. This time I decided to just try and buy from the Wolf or another one I recall seeing here priced at $1750. Guy offers it to me for full pop @ $4400 or so. I declined adamantly. He gets up and leaves and comes back at $2200 which is exactly what I paid for my Taco. I declined again but thanked him for the gracious offer. I figured we were done. He gets up and leaves again! He came back and said "Ok...we can do $1900." I confirmed we were talking about Toyota's Platinum VSA to which he agreed. I bought it and just rolled it in to the price. I knew $1750 was the minimum and I'd have to right a check for that when I bought it. It was close enough for me!

I think the bottom line is, if it’s not coding or leaking, whether it’s covered by warranty may be open to interpretation.

Thanks for the write up. I think the part that bothers me the most is that he said the $2600 was " employee pricing". At that point I had a feeling he was lying. Shocker,I know.....

Yes, well aware. I used to own a motorcycle shop that specialized in late model Harley Davidson repair. Most of the bikes I worked on were new or fairly new. I am well versed in dealing with criteria for warranties etc. and what dealerships actually tell customers and it's not always the truth. I had to be careful what I did and make sure I explained everything to the customer because most of the time their bikes were still under factory warranty in which case all warranty claims went thru the dealer
I was, however, an approved service center for Harley Davidson extended warranties purchased at the dealer thru HD so I've had plenty of experience with how those companies operate lol.

i work at one of them Service contract. there is not aftermarket warranty company that is Bumper-to-Bumper. the only ones available to do that are factory warranties or if a dealer/shop has a special agreement to do so;think carmax. the one offered to me by the dealer is a external company and is not bumper to bumper. it has stated parts that it can cover and rules you have to follow.

service contracts are good as long as you know how to play with them. if you just go and drive the car and not do maintenance or not keeping records of them they will deny most stuff. most of them will have you kick curb for whatever modification you have, this is why the best thing to do is read your contract. they will cover parts noted but check if they cover related components like bolts/gaskets/fluid needed for the repairs.

most important they wont pay if they see evidence of abuse, this can be offroad use, racing, or even towing to much.

i cannot streess to read the contract or give the claims department a call. they will guide explain everything.

There's very little platinum in our trucks; why pay several thousand dollars to maintain it?

Funny that your dealer advised against it. The master toyota tech at my local dealer suggested that I change to a GL-4 75w-90 synthetic to improve shifting into 2nd on my older truck. How confident are you that they used the correct gear oil? Most tend to use their bulk 75w-90 oil, which is likely GL-5. That can reduce synchro performance.

i specifically asked them to use synthetic when they changed the fluid….aside from that, I can’t be sure. Maybe it’s worth confirming….

    From the service print out:

Looks like 75w90 synthetic but I can’t be sure about the abbreviations. Charged $11.95 per quart….hmmm that seems cheap for synthetic, no?

I did a quick google search on that number and I'd assume the 337201-873 is Gulf 337201 Synthetic GL-5 75w-90.
The 2013 tacoma spec does allow GL-4/GL-5, so GL-5 is in fact a correct oil (3rd Gen spec calls for GL-3/GL-4).
If that is when you started having trouble getting into 2nd gear, I'd still swap it out for MT-90 or another GL-4 75w-90 oil.
    My $.02.

It sucks we have no access to Toyota extended warranties here in FL. The Southeast Toyota Mafia sells their stuff from their warranty company. Although they do have decent reputation it's still not factory even though the dealers make it out to be the "factory" stuff here.

I bought it through Toyota for piece of mind. Repairs are costing more and more these days. Parts are so expensive and rising in price, I figure getting a fixed price on the warranty is a good value in a very fluctuating market of auto repair.

I’d just remove my windows if I lived in Hawaii anyway! But I get what you’re saying - here’s hoping your dealership is easier to deal with than mine .

You’re right though. Seems all easy to have the warranty but difficult to have them cover costs.

Not necessarily, I’m just having an issue with my dealership trouble shooting a problem at the moment despite my having the ‘Platinum’ warranty. It’s great to be able to bounce ideas off the knowledge base of this forum though.

The original AC in my 2007 FJ Cruiser (with 169,000 miles) will freeze you out of the vehicle. I'll take my chances that the one in my Taco will do the same.
