Hey all new to the Tacoma world just purchased my first one and when I got home and pulled into the driveway the truck died and won’t start! I tried jumping it and it won’t even turn over even after the truck is off oil light and a/t oil temp light are staying on

Could have blown a fuse. Not sure what it looks like on the 99 but check the fuse for the starter.

Are they staying on with the key out? What happens when you try to start it?

Could be as simple as needing to clean up the battery terminals.

Do the lights stay on when you turn the key off?

does the engine turn over but fail to start?

do you get a clicking sound when you try to start it but the engine fails to turn over?

The lights stay on even if key is out of ignition and will not turn over at all lights are dim inside and even when hooked up to jumpers doesn’t crank at all

The dash lights stay on even when the key is out of the ignition? Do you hear a click from the starter solenoid when you try to start it?

If you just purchased this truck, I'd be calling the seller and asking what the #&@^^# is going on with this truck you sold me.

    Dead cell
Can't jump start across a dead short.
Measure the volts at battery terminals with multimeter.
    Should be 12.5+
Also dead cells won't take charging.

Another vote for battery is toast, which also could be your alternator not charging battery

Thank you I’ll throw a good battery in tomorrow and see if it does the truck hoping it’s that easy if a fix!

I would check the voltage first. No use on buying a new battery if it’s not the problem. Do you have a meter?

Assuming you have no luck with the guy who sold it to you and don’t have a multimeter, a lot of parts shops will do a battery/ charging system test for free.

This. And even if you see 12.5+ it doesn't mean it can provide the amperage requirement.

If it isn't that...suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Which one is missing?

But this sounds like a classic case of a battery that has been deep discharged a few times and can't provide the proper juice anymore.

On another note: Priced a battery recently? Damn. Check Costco. They have a nice AGM for our trucks at about $160.

All kinds 3 inch body lift/2 1/2 suspension lift. 31/11 1/2/15 tires All work done by myself for years. The only work performed by mechanic was fuel pumps. I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
Price of batteries and tires is way up. Was that your first ride in your new truck.

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a similar issue. My truck won’t start, even after trying with jumper cables and connecting a new battery—still nothing. I ran an OBD2 scan, but no codes showed up. To top it off, my honk stopped working a few days ago. Any ideas on how I can get my truck back to life? Thanks in advance!

What is the voltage on your battery at rest?

Not all jumper cables are up to task so that can be a factor.

I haven’t tested it yet, but tomorrow morning I’ll head back with a multimeter and a few extra fuses.

Check the 80amp big fuse in your engine bay fuse box. This happened to me just yesterday when I was doing dumb shit under the hood.
I found out after breaking it trying to yank it out that it’s bolted in from the bottom side of the fuse box.
