Remember the flip cap on the S/A hub, so you could drop some oil in there occasionally.

The guy in the middle looks "horny", and I see the pilot behind them all hoisting a tall boy.

As I recall there were two different models. One had a little chain that worked the gear change and one had a little lever that worked it.

Anyhow this is how I learned about the operation of an automatic transmission or electric overdrive when I was a kid, because they all work the same as a Sturmey-Archer.

Hating Chevrolets because the distributor was way in the back and hard to get to.

Loving Chevrolet’s because you could adjust the dwell while the engine was running.

Hating Chevrolet because they were so sloppy you had to shim every starter differently to make it work.

Loving Chevrolet’s because the starters lasted more than 30,000 miles.

Loving the wraparound windshield visibility design.

Hating the wraparound windshield frame design, where you always hit your knee getting in the car.

Yup..I had a Schwinn Pixie with solid rubber tires. Needing a new tire meant replacing the whole wheel, so I kept the old one and took it apart to learn.

I remember the SA drum brake hubs too..a pro rider named Ceppie Maes used them.

I still have a timing light in its original box! It has about an inch of dust on it.

Absolutely! That sharp looking blonde gal and the doofus with the bowl haircut. Could you imagine a version of "That's Incredible" in today's society? o_O

Don't forget the always using a book of matches to gap the points. It was always just right when you used the cover of the matchbook. :D

That was just a vivid reminder of how stupid "That's Incredible" really was! That was embarrassing!

I mean if they were going for speed on that they could have at least invited a professional BMX racer, not a freestyler. Though RL's dad had a magazine so perhaps a wee bit of nepotism..

I could adjust the valve backlash on my Studebaker while the engine was running - with me sitting inside the engine compartment on the pax side inner fender.
The Stude's old Carter carburator had an oil bath filter.
And a toilet-paper roll capable by-pass oil filter. (There were brand name filters for it, but in a pinch the tp roll fit perfectly.)
    42 Stude M-5 Champion p-up, in-line six.

Grandad passed the truck down to me, but orignal owner was V.T. Hamlin. He created the caveman cartoon Alley Oop.
He was working with my family in the oil fields of west TX (Irran, TX) when the cartoon idea hit. (Obviously thought oil came from dinosaurs.) So when he decided to get published in Chicago (?) he sold the Stude to my grandad and took off for success. Irran has a museum dedicated to Alley Oop still today.
