Went to a screening of Wyoming BDR movie. Tons of people, I couldn't even sit. Stayed until the end for the raffle. Didnt win anything, so i left. Riding in 40 degree weather for 10 min was ok. Dont want to do it every day. Glad i work from home

I have a pair of similar ones to those for work for when I'm running concerts. Etymotics, I think they're only a 15nnr on my set though? It's amazing how linear your hearing can be with them, it attenuates the lows almost equally to the highs, so it doesn't sound as muffled, just quieter. After too long though having the solid center starts to hurt my ears. I have small canals, I think. I don't have that problem with the foamies.

Man, I cannot imagine riding WITHOUT ear plugs. Took me a week or so to get used to it but now? It feels weird and the wind noise will slowly, but surely, erode your hearing, especially over 60mph or so. I prefer the basic silicone as they are more comfortable and washable.

Jumping in.. On the topic of ear-pro. I have yet to use any in the helment. I do prefer the foamies myself for general loud noise stuff. That said, I have a box of these and find the stupid cord can and will, pick up a high wind noise if winds are high (vibrates through the cord into the ear like having an antenna on them. (Me anyway)). So I cut the cord off when using them, or wearing the beanie over top in the winter time. Granted I use these for around the house stuff and shooting. but over all they work well for me.

Edit: I keep a few pairs in the vehicles for the, never know when I'll need them.

For earplugs, I use either foamies (Howard leight greenies are the most comfortable. Trust me, I wear earplugs for work and have tried everything), or eargasm reusable musician’s plugs ($30ish). Both amazing. I’d never ride without plugs. The wind noise even at 30mph is more than enough to cause long term damage

On bikes with a windscreen my Schuberth E1 is quiet enough to comfortably ride without earplugs. No windscreens and anything over about 45mph is annoying and I'll put in a set of orange foamies that are in all my tank bags. With my Bell MX9 it's earplugs all the time, that thing is noisy in exchange for good airflow.

For ear plugs, I went to a Costco hearing centre and had a mold of my ears taken. For about $50 bucks (CDN), I had a set of custom molded plugs within a week. You get to choose the colour, and more importantly, sound filter or solid. The filtered block out less sound of course, but still offer a noise reduction rating of around 24db.

That sounds awesome! I hadn't heard about this. Any idea if they have some strong enough that could be worn to a gun range? (even if just an outdoor one?)

I would think the solid would block out enough noise. Probably mid 40 to low 50db range. The audiologist was helpful in making recommendations with me. I use my filtered plugs for doing preflights. They knock down just the right amount of noise, but not so much that I lose situational awareness of my environment. It's pretty noisy out on the ramp with the APU running, and the high pitch whine of hydraulic pumps. Not to mention other jets and turbo props in the movement areas.

Yep, that's the biggest thing for me, either when shooting or when on a bike--it's still important to hear whats going on around you

There maybe different filtration levels available as well. It was so long ago, that I honestly don't remember. On that note, the price has probably gone up too.

Winter maintenance on the old girl.
Just got done rebuilding the forks and putting in new springs. Adjusted the valves and synced the carbs.

Side note this was my first inline 4 that I’ve adjusted the valves on. 16 of those lil buggers is a lot of shim sizes to calculate and keep track of. Took a while.

How many miles? I'm supposed to do mine every 16k but I waited until 20 because all the F4i guys were like "Honda valves rarely, if ever, need adjusting!" 12 of 16 were well out of spec...
