Do we need 2 extensions for the rear? I was under the assumption that one 4ft extension would suffice?

I ordered and installed both the front and rear kit. Without any additional extensions, I was able to run the wire under the passenger door sills then under the carpet and rear storage boxes to front edge of the rear seats. The thread got me second guessing to order additional extensions but I had plenty of wire.

With the two 8' extensions included, you can do it with the 2' extension in the front kit if you don't use it there. I just want a bit more cable management flexibility, both longer and shorter.

I'll also then have an 8' and 2' extension in case I decide to do something behind the seat.

I have to say, VLEDS is damn quick. Ordered at 1:19p, got a text from FedEx telling me I'd have Saturday delivery five hours later.

I’m just waiting for the extensions to arrive. If they don’t make it here by Saturday I’m going to give it a shot with the 2x 8 ft wires that come with the rear kit.

I just got back from a 670 mile road trip with temps down to -5°F. These lights are really nice and functioned flawlessly. My teenager even commented "whoa, those are fancy, like in luxury cars". He's probably just trying to get me to buy a rear set though.

Got my extensions today. A couple of observations:

    • if you don’t use the 2’ extension on the fronts, that, combined with one of the 8’ extensions, is the perfect amount to get back to the first rear light. The trick is to run it under the carpet and into the storage cavity. Enough room to hide the connection behind the hinge. I will secure with hot glue when my replacement rears arrive.
    • One 4’ extension is the perfect length to span the rear lights. Tuck under the storage cavity lip, behind the plastic inserts.
    • The only time you’ll ever see the wires is when you open the rear seat.

8’ extension meets 2’ extension. When you pry up the sill, you’ll see exactly where you should be.

Route the wire from the top inside this corner, reach under the carpet to grab. Run the other end under the lip of the insert. There’s just enough room for the connector head to fit.

So obviously there's multiple ways to install the rear kit depending on where one wants to mount the rear lights and hide the wires and it appears the front kit could be done without the included 2ft extension.

If I understand this correctly and assuming I used the included 2ft extension with the front kit on the front kit itself; I'd ideally need one additional 4ft extension to span the length of the rear seat and ideally two 2ft extensions to piggy back to the two 8ft wires included in the rear kit? Does that sound right?

It's really a matter of how you want to run the cables. Just one 2' or 4' extension along with the 2 8' cables that come with the kit should give you plenty of leeway to run through the storage box and mount the lights on the front undersides of the rear seats.

You’ll need one of the 8’ extensions to get from front to rear, but it isn’t quite enough to get to the rear seat while hiding the wire. Unless you go directly under the carpet. That’s where I used the 2’ extension. You can use the other 8’ extension to go between the two rear lights, but you have a ton of slack.

Basically the wiring run goes from the a-pillar connector to the fuse area, wire up the first light. Then series to the pass front, pass rear, then driver rear.

Has anyone able to use the included 2' ext between the two front footwells? I tried that one first but couldn't fish it...

I think the intention of the 2' extension is to allow additional placement options for the PWM module. There's plenty of space to neatly hide any extra wire on the passenger side from the longer extension using the provided zip ties.

Unless you are going to use the lights basically attached to either side of the floor console, it's too short.

If I got a lane departure malfunction what could that mean? I’m checking all my connections again

Footwell lights work but there error is present. I did remove negative battery cable during install

Edit: removed negative battery cable again and all is good!

If you have the 2 connector design in the a pillar, try re-seating the connector that neighbors the one you put the harness on. Or it could just not be happy because you messed with that connector in general, and when you re-cycled your negative terminal it went away. Weird stuff happens. I installed a prototype on my 2020 4Runner and had something similar. It never came back, though.

Completed product. I really like the blue! Nice easy install. Hardest part for me was getting my fat head far enough under the footwell to fish out the wires
