Is this only in the city limits? Living out in the county these rules don't apply anymore or am I incorrect? That would be tough to comply with.

Exactly, and if they fell in the street because the sidewalk was unavailable the property owner would probably be held responsible as well.

Litigation has pulled us down, the lawyers and insurance companies are the only ones who win.

Yes, just in town. Out where I actually live we do our own thing.
The only caveat being if you don't clear around your mailbox (rural delivery) the Postman will just drive right by.

    I actually have a Post-lady or is it Post-person...?
"Rural Letter Carrier" is the official title I believe.

I can see that about the mailbox and I would begrudgingly oblige. The sidewalks will be clear when God wants them to be. I had no idea towns had rules on how quick you have to shovel. Makes sense, I'm sure some people would never shovel if you didn't have rules.

I have no issue keeping the mailbox clear. The Postman (lady) drives their own vehicle, if they get stuck or damaged it is their problem not the PO.

Out here in the back of beyond the Postman is a real person not some stereotype generic disgruntled civil servant. Over the years I have had several and they have all been good folks. They keep an eye on the properties and more importantly the older people they serve.

Not really I spent a free week well almost free but for food in Hawaii back in the late seventies in the middle of winter .

Going back to -50 temperatures in Rock Springs Wyoming to work in the shale oil fields once was enough .

I was lucky to never live anyplace with sidewalks. But for camping out when working in motels.

Funny how the governing body has a road right of way that in some areas that extends past the sidewalk.

That reminded me of a sidewalk job long ago the boss kept with the original grade to match the sidewalk on both ends of course this was not to code . pouring to code would have made a nice few inch difference height I know it got dragged into court I never heard what happened .

Geez. It's not like that here in Ohio! The city government deals with the concrete upkeep (they don't shovel them). It's up to the homeowner to shovel them clear. Most due, but the 2 bad snow storms that we had with the ice and 18" (total) of heavy snow? Yeah, I didn't shovel more than I had to. I figured if someone really wanted to walk on the sidewalk in that cold, the deserved to walk through snow!

My friend says arguing with city inspectors is like wrestling a greased pig. You get all tired, sweaty, etc...then you might realize it's just you b/c that pig is having a good laugh at your stupid ass..

    Fights..hmmm..

Got in a couple on the playground etc..mostly defending the honour of my friend's older brother.

A few bar fights..never lost one. Sometimes came out better than others but always made sure to give more of an ass beating than I took.

    Plenty of mosh pits too.

Past 20 years though nothing, though I did think I'd have to throw down a couple of times at concerts. Different reasons, different dates, but the irony is both times was at a Journey show.
