‘08 Tacoma Died at Idle… thoughts?

Hey Everyone - new to the forum and I am in the process of fixing up my friends truck.

‘08 Tacoma 172k miles

I pulled it up into my driveway (nose first) and had the battery unplugged for about two hours as I was working on troubleshooting some off road lights, found I needed parts and put it back together.

It then barely started and had RPMs at like 500. Truck began to vibrate pretty bad, something not experienced on this truck before - went to run to get parts and the truck died twice at a stop sign after some pretty excessive vibrations. (No vibes under load) Both time the truck started right up and I was able to make it home. Drove the truck like 2-3 days ago and it was not showing issues like this.

Got home and looked underneath and found a broken rubber mount by the muffler. Looked even closer and saw some exhaust leak coming from these two spots. The one that looks like oil coming out of the muffler is on the side closest to the exhaust tip.

Any idea would could be happening? No codes showing up and now I cannot get the vibrations to replicate and the truck is now idling fine. Last photo shows some discharge potentially at the engine?

Needs a new donut gasket, at the flange with the spring bolts.

New rubber isolator.

Most likely moisture at that leak by the muffler.

 

Clean your throttle body, when you disconnect the battery the PCM "forgets" it's learned idle compensation thus if the throttle body is dirty you will have a low/unstable idle after a battery disconnect.
The black at the exhaust connection is normal, it is just soot that has mixed with moisture in the exhaust.
The rubber hanger is an easy fix as well.

Exactly this. Very prevelant issue on camrys with the 2.4 as well

 

Thank you. Ordered new gasket and the isolator.
Going to pick up cleaners and brushes to clean the body and the Mass Air Flow.. looks like this has happened to others. Glad it wasn’t anything major.
