Patches.jpg Good morning everyone. It's going to be a long day for me today. We have a 5:00 appointment this evening to have our beagle put down. She's just shy of 15yo and starting to have seizures and difficulty breathing. She's totally deaf and covered in tumors. The wife and I finally made the decision that it's time. [IMG]

I have a 17' Grumman touring canoe made from aircraft aluminum. My parents bought two of them new in 1974. Been on most of the major rivers in Michigan over the years and used hard by me for 40 years for fishing and camping. It's been through many rapids and log jams so it's dented, scratched, and generally banged up all over and has never leaked a drop in 48 years!

Unfortunately it was fatal. His girlfriend (whom we don't know) was also shot and in ICU.
    It's surreal.

Sorry to hear it, no matter the companions we have had it never is easy. It's the only time I will run to the parking lot and cry like a baby. Give yourselves time to heal.

Morning all, creeping crud isn't horrific but taking a toll on my pancreas. Gutless wonder should be my subtitle.

I am so sorry to hear this, they are never with us long enough!! I've had a lot of dogs the last 62 years.... Had to put down several, it is the hardest thing to do especially when they've been with you that long.. Sad thing is they will be there sick or not right by their person till the end.. :(

Too much gloom for a ‘happy post’

I’m sorry for the things some of y’all are having to deal with. My heart goes out to each of you.

Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts. We had to put her twin sister down almost 3 years ago. She had cancer, was deaf and blind at the end, and started having grand mal seizures. Unfortunately the two were not from a reputable breeder and apparently did not have a healthy gene pool. Both went deaf. One went blind. Both had a propensity for tumors including mast cell tumors. It's been 29 years since we haven't had a dog. We think we will try to go a while without getting another pet. But that idea could change by the time we drive home tonight.....

We went a couple of years after our lab Isabelle passed, and my wife had repeatedly sworn "never again, never again." That is, until she had the unplanned and unexpected opportunity to rescue Lucy. A year later we added Kiki (another formerly feral rescue) and we can't imagine being without dogs now.

Whether you adopt now or a couple of years from now, it'll be the right time for y'all. Good luck.

Always hard to make that decision. But it is important to consider the quality of life for the animal.

    Sorry

I’m so sorry you are having to make this decision. I always tell myself they will go and play with the ones I’ve sent before and eventually they will be there waiting for me.

After our 3 boys passed we didn't get another dog but I've been at my friends house for a year now, taking care of a rowdy yellow Lab and his sidekick Yorkie-Poo. It's going to be hard to move away but I'll be visiting often and might go back to foster care for puppers that need time to find a forever home.
It gets me through good times and tough times life throws at me.
Might want to consider that as an option for a bit? Good guardians are hard to find, sounds like you and your wife are in the excellent group.
