:frusty::frusty: Just another day in paradise…

    Affirmative.

This is one of our shop trucks which we had been driving to a job site 60 miles south every day for a week. Friday it made it 40 miles back and started flashing the check engine lamp. Difficult to tell with a borescope, but the valves look like they are still in place.
However, something got loose and had a party in the cylinder…

    UGH!!!

I had a John Deere 2555 cab tractor once, was fertilizing corn, not going fast and about half throttle. Something made a racket in the engine and it started skipping. I thought "diesels aren't supposed to skip" so I unhooked it and took it to the shop at mom and dads. My brother and I got to messing with it and he started cracking injector lines with it running to see which cylinder it was misfiring. We figured out it was the #3 cylinder so I pulled the injector. The tip came off of it and was embedded in the top of the piston. I pulled the head, had it checked, cylinder wall looked fine. It got 4 new injectors, a turbo rebuild, etc. Cost me about $1,400

A friend of mine has a early Tacoma and had new NGK plugs put in it, about 4 months later one of the ends broke off and jacked his head up, cost him about $1,600 to have it fixed. About a year ago it blew one of the plugs out of it. He borrowed my bore scope and checked it out, put a new plug in and has been driving it ever since.

Check everything in the intake area. Hoses, mounts, t/body..
    Check air cleaner for shit.
Something decided to do a walk about…
Porcelain cracking and falling out I don’t think could cause extreme issues.
I’ve had some cracked and not bent..
    Mmmm
Blow that sucker out, double check for anything in it, throw another plug in it and crank it up.

Fords are okay, 70% are still on the road today.

The other 30% made it home

Interestingly, this cylinder registered 5% on a power balance test while another cylinder read 35%, so something certainly got loose. We have not poked around in the second cyl with the scope.
There is a rather large crater in the cylinder head in the first cyl, so we’re gonna park it and order an engine. We got other fishes to fry…

I only ever had one Chev, no reason other than I never found something useful to me at a price I wanted to pay.

    Currently on the roster:
    Tacoma - retirement trophy
    Subaru - wife
Jeep XJ Cherokee (Chrysler era, AMC design)
    2 Fords - F250 & the wagon
    and a...
Dodge - the daily van -- which I have to admit is the most useful, practical and easy to live with vehicle I have ever had.
