What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Blocks out more light and heat. Think about it, you tint all 5 windows but the front windshield will still be bringing in a lot of the light so people can still see inside your vehicle.

 

The windshield UV tint is clear. Doesn't darken the visible light. My 2018 had it, (I actually needed to look really hard to conform it was there). Does not hinder visibility at all.
I didn't do it on my 2021 Tacoma because I want to suction cup things to my windshield. ( Temporary Cameras, GPS, etc....)
Also I didn't really think it decreased the in-cab temp all that much. (but you can actually feel the difference in the UV heat/radiation on your skin)

Not saying you should; or shouldn't get it.

Just adding some information to clarify visibility with the clear UV tint.

 

Yeah, pretty much every windshield now has a UV blocking coating applied. For some reason side and rear windows haven't gotten the same love and I can't understand why. The point of my comments though is that it makes no sense to tint the windshield for UV reasons. Light and Thermal are perfectly good reasons though. The side and rear windows are a completely different story since they do not usually come from the factory with a UV coating.

 

Do you know the part number or have a link for the "specialized mount for Toyota". Could not find it on the Pelican site.

I added 20% all around and 70% on the shield. Can't even tell it's on the shield with the clarity of ceramic. Will do 50% next time. I dig the 20% all around though. Any darker and my blind ass can't see out the sides lol.

I can tell you that from experience that tinting the windshield blocks considerable heat vs not having it done. Most windshields don't block 100% of uv-a and will vary based on manufacturer. Less glare and lower cabin temps are more than enough reason for me to have it done. But the most beneficial upgrade by far is ceramic tinting the front door windows if nothing else. I live in Phoenix though, so if you're elsewhere YMMV.

 

Isn't polarization all about blocking UV? I see the polarized side & rear windows on many, many vehicles.
I am now going have to pay attention and try to see it on Tacomas in particular.

I've no trouble believing some manufacturers have and some don't. I just wouldn't have thought the newer modern cars would go without. Such an easy ear saving product.
Cost is everything though...

Nah, Polarization just filters light based on the angle it hits the film. Light is emitted in all directions and angles, but when light bounces off of a reflective object or water it becomes much more uniform and intense. Polarization films can be tilted to roughly the same angle to filter out that light specifically. If the film is tilted to far in one direction the effect is lost.

You can actually demonstrate this by putting on polarized shades and staring at your phone while you rotate it. At some angles you'll see the screen, at other angles it will be damn near black. This is because the polarization filter in the screen and the polarization filter in the shades are 90degrees opposed and are blocking nearly 100% of the light. This filtering is typically band specific, in this case Visible Light specific, and have little to no effect on UV light. That requires a different filter that either reflects or absorbs the light in that specific frequency band.

At least, I think that's how it works.

 

Magnaflow Overland Series SS Exhaust installed this weekend. Took all of 15 minutes to put on with my buddy. So nice to finally do a modification on this truck that installs as quickly as it should. Fitment is absolutely perfect and has no clearance issues w/ the 33" spare w/ the Hodakaguy relocation mod (have about 1" free clearance all directions). The volume even at it's loudest option is only noticeable when accelerating and does not drone AT ALL. It might be slightly louder if I didn't deaden the cabin, but what I applied usually doesn't do too much for exhaust noise - need a sound blocking layer to dampen those frequencies. I'm happy with my purchase but hope this packs in over the next few hundred miles because it's very quiet so far. I suppose my neighbors won't hate me and it will be nice for when I eventually swap out the y-pipe and manifolds though. It's so nice to not have that stock eyesore of an exhaust pipe hanging out anymore. The back end of the truck looks so much cleaner.

 

Yep, it was the polarized sunglasses that allowed me to see the polarized windows on other vehicles.
And yep, you're spot-on about the polarization opposing light waves at 90 degrees. Easy to see the grid pattern (when you do see it).
I think my brain farted about the function of polarization. It is about --glare-- and not UV. But I can't say if it all or just mostly; and no UV.

Ceremic is a must for heat blocking application. The Shop I use has llumar and xpel.

 

You have your percentages flipped. On tint, the percentage is the amount of light that passes through not the amount of darkness.

At least, running 5% is contrary to your hopes of maintaining good night vision.

 

So I'm curious. Are our double cabs considered sedan passenger vehicles or suv/van?

For legal purposes passenger vehicles. Suv/van has a side window behind C pillar.
