Kreg made a tune for a guy I tuned who has a very similar driving situation. The first guy I tuned to Pro actually. He liked Pro initially but wanted a lower performance, higher mpg tune, not just a lower throttle. Kreg delivered like he always does.

I personally tried the tune out for a couple weeks, but I couldn't get used to it. It is DEFINITELY not for everyone.

I'm probably making more work for all of my fellow KD group guys, but this guy, Ray really loves what Kreg randomly called the 3-4-5 tune.
If you live where you are VERY often in a slower traffic and slow driving towns, under 40mph/65kmph, AND you are looking for mpg over performance, the 3-4-5 tune might be for you.

Here are his texts in order regarding the 3-4-5. Keep in mind, Ray drives REAL chill. Again, this tune is not for most people but I think will make real low-key, speed limit drivers happy.

EDIT - he has the "normal" throttle setting on this tune and his truck is a little heavier than stock.

Wanted to update after putting a couple hundred miles on my new KDMax Pro tune running 91 octane.

Kreg was super awesome to work with, fine tuned some shift points for me and was just a cool guy to talk with.

The KDMax Pro has just completely changed my driving experience. No more gear hunting, averaging around 20mpg with lift and larger tires. That is about 70% city, 30% hwy. The sport throttle is awesome and my low end torque is definitely noticeable finally. Driving at 65-80mph it finally doesn’t shift to third just for a little hill and actually holds 5th and 6th.

Really happy and I know that when I do bump up to a Procharger, Kreg will be my go to to help me tune it!

@TWTaco @PapaRee Just wanted to give another thanks, it's been a real pleasure being able to switch between tunes. When I'm feeling spirited I'll flash the Sport tune on and when I'm commuting I'll flash the Lite tune on.

Hey KD Max users! The other day I was running I-80 east out of Lincoln NE in high winds and it was miserable. Truck stayed in 4th just to run 75mph. What is your experience in high winds with the KD Max tune? Nebraska is pretty flat and tends to have high wind speeds.... Edit, truck is stock.

I can’t speak to wind but I would assume pulling a 3000 pound trailer is at least the equivalent of that sort of wind resistance (probably a lot more) and my truck will easily hit 5th at that speed.

So... Curiosity has killed me over this. I have been into Hptuners for a bit and tuning other cars I've had for years.

Couple Technical question here. When I data logged my truck with torque pro app on android with my OBDLink LX I was watching AFR and cat temp etc.

So how do these trucks determine fueling? AFR commanded or Lambda? The O2 sensors, are they wideband or narrow?

When I am watching AFR commanded on the generic obd stuff, decel fuel cut off for some odd reason makes it read stupid rich like 7.4 or something like that, BUT when I watch AFR Measured it works as it should, dfco is 18:1. Is that a Toyota thing or what with it commanding such a weird afr number? Thanks and cant wait to see what the answer is I am so curious about this stuff...

You would need a wideband AFR gauge to properly monitor the AFR.
I don't use the Torque Pro App. I use OBDFusion. It has Toyota specific PID's and show AFR.

Ah ok. I just downloaded some Toyota specific ones for the obdlink app. I'll take a gander. Thanks for the response. Much appreciated.

Glad to hear everyone's loving the pro version. Is it that big of an upgrade from the 6.0 ? Love the 6.0, but living in CO, still have it jumping between what I think is 5th and 6th, not wanting to hold 6th, when driving in mountain highways.

Not sure if the pro version would "fix" this, but that's the only issue I have with it still. If not, probably keep the 6?

Probably you’d find the same type of behaviour with Pro. If the conditions aren’t right to hold the OD gear it will get itself into the correct gear. I think Pro handles this a bit better than 6 so if it were me, I’d upgrade. Also, Pro is much smoother and refined.

Yea .. if it's the same-ish, then I can hold off for now :)

Just annoying when the truck goes RPM almost redlining ........... shifts to 6th, great phew ...5 seconds later ... almost redlining on 5th .......... shifts to 6th ... 2 seconds later .... redline ad nauseum, kinda cringy when you have people in the truck :annoyed:

Save the $ for a re-gear, hopefully will fix it

The KDMax-Pro power is definitely better and will improve on the highway shifting. If you do the upgrade, let me know and we can dial in the shifting even more if needed.
We want you to be happy and will make the shifting to your liking.
PM me if you have Vftuner and want to upgrade.

Thanks! Might take you up on that offer, but no tuner on my end ... yet. Got it done by the one of your guys, happy with it like I mentioned. Just wish the highway / elevation driving were less temperamental haha. Probably get a tuner before just upgrading the tune though
