Well here's my rant for the day. Charity plates in RI can only be used on passenger vehicles. Trucks, of all sorts, INCLUDING regular pick em up troks, like my Tacoma, is registered as "combination", and cannot do anything other than the wave plates.

MA allows them because truck registrations aren't any different from passenger car registrations here. I have the United We Stand plates.

As it should be. You want to daily an F250? Go for it. But understand that old girl is a real truck. You want to have a fleet truck or daily a Tacoma or an F150? That shouldn't require you to be under the combination status. Shenanigans.

I had a security guard tell me I was in the right but still told me I needed to backup my tractor trailer because some idiot didn't want to drive in front of me and go around.

I said no, then proceeded to hit the airbrakes and take key out of ignition.

I know you can get a normal reg at least up to a 350/3500. My girlfriend's father went to renew his 3500 and his insurance agent told him he didn't need commercial plates on it and it would save him money, so he switched to passenger plates. Not sure what the actual cutoff is.

MA doesn't do combination. It's either "passenger" (personal) or commercial.

I know someone else who put signage for her photography business on a CR-V. A statie pulled her over and said if it has business lettering it needs to have a commercial registration.

Pretty sure they used to go by the 10k rule as well, w/ no private exemption.

I know I don't have commercial plates on my 1 ton.... and it is over 10k

On your 1 ton, do you have to get the commercial inspection? Guy I work with bought a Chevy 2500 but because they are playing the payload wars, the GVWR is over 11k lbs. anything over 10k seems to require the commercial inspection. Thankfully, Ford had their 250’s at 10k lbs, at least until 2019…. My F250 has non commercial plates, non-commercial inspection.
