ECU TSB Update

It depends on the tsb. The ecu ones don’t require hardware. There’s a sticker but most dealers don’t bother to install them anyway. They never did on my 16 with the first shifting tsb

 

The sticker is just to show there was an authorized modification, and it would be placed under the hood. But I believe @tonered has pointed out that it's unlikely a dealership would even go through the trouble of actually placing the sticker.

There are some TSB's that do require changing hardware. The tundra has one that requires the fuel pump to be replaced. I'm pretty sure it's the only one I've seen as well.

 

Yeah. Folks report that the stickers are very hit and miss.

None of the stuff posted in this thread requires HW changes.

 

Thanks for that. The only question now would be how to get the updated vftune files if I got 04B42 since I registered 04B41 several years ago when I first bought the tune pack. I vaguely remember them saying it would be free but not sure now with all of the changes they've made to the licensing.

 

The sensor issue was a special service campaign (campaign K0B). It only involved replacement hardware if specific error codes were stored in the ECU. Otherwise you got a foam pad and software/firmware update. I didn't get any stickers from the dealer after several ECU updates or the K0B campaign.

These updates in here are just firmware updates that technically roll the ECU part number since it's a class I change (impacts F3I). However, most dealers don't provide an updated part number sticker (at least in my experience with a sample size of me).

 

You just message them and say you updated and request the new pack

I got my ecu updated at the dealer 2 weekends ago, SA put it under the power train warranty and I got no sticker.

I didn’t know what I was missing the last 3+ yrs and this will hold me over until I decide if I’ll go down the diy rabbit hole or shell out an arm (just to the elbow) for a tune

 

Make sure to reset the Learned Values. That'll give you 100% from the "tune". If you run ECT ON all the time, you might find that an aftermarket tune isn't necessary...

What @Shellshock noted is the deal. 04B42 still doesn't have Tunes.

 

Wouldn’t updating the ecu calibration automatically do this since you’re over writing the trucks sofware?

A question for anyone who might know, regarding updating from 04B81 to 04B82:

If my Crawl Control works fine, should I still update from 04B81 to 04B82?
Has anyone with proper functioning Crawl Control done so; and if so, did you notice any difference?

In other words: besides the Crawl Control fix, are there any differences between 04B81 & 04B82?

The other TSBs typically had some really good secret sauce, but the CC fix TSB-0045-21 seems to only do that. No other goodies have been posted that I have seen.

If I was running Stock or flashing a new person on the vF Tune, I'd flash up to 04B82. If someone has the current vF Tunes on 04B81, I would not jump up solely for that reason.

 

Just went from vF 04B81 Premium 33 Thx to 04B82 TSB, and then proceeded to flash vF 04B82 Premium 33 Thx just because I like to stay current. Will report if I feel any difference.

 

If you're tuned, there are differences in the tune that I happened to see when I did a comparison.

Otherwise, my CC was affected before, and no longer is. But I'd still recommend updating anyways.

Some odd set of maps that I think 2016-2017's don't have. Not at my computer at the moment to take a look.

 

Just updated my 2021 with TSB-0045-21 this week. I reset all my values so that slight jerkiness was present at first, but other than that there's not a single recognizable difference with the truck. I never had an issue with CC before, but I still wanted the fixed/updated ECU logic in the truck in case it did have the potential to be an issue in the future. May not be worth it to others though
