1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I got a company-issued bone-stock turd gen today with the almighty 2.7L engine. It's bigger, heavier and uglier than my personal truck... but it still drives pretty nice. Big upgrade from the Dodge cargovan I had.

 

Yea, you missed out on more of my perfectly reasonable alternative solutions that got completely over looked

Prediction: Gasoline price increases will send 1st gen Tacoma prices even higher. It may not be a huge increase over the already high market. It won't be going down anytime soon.

Situation: People driving big 1/2 to 3/4 ton trucks that rarely haul anything will start looking for a nice economical little truck like the Tacoma or other small trucks.

I remember during the 1st big gas crunch and market hysteria, people were jumping out of new "luxury" cars into junky Vegas, Pintos, and old VW beetles from the 1960s if they could find one.

 

At first, I thought a Mclaren GT and Jaguar XJ220 had a love child...

 

I’ve been hearing them say they’re going to build new EV DeLoreans for the last ten years haha. I’ll believe it when I see it.

 

When the recession happened in 08 I remember everyone in my neck of the woods scrambling to find 3cyl metros and fireflys and the massive spike in cost they went under

 

Oh yea. I just noticed interest in 1st Gen Tacomas has picked up in another thread. How's that for being a sage?

Bigest gripe is the bed is only 4.5ft and how happy they are to advertise a 6ft bed "if you leave the tailgate down" lol. I think it's too big for a "mini truck" really, I can get over the unibody and FWD nature of the beast but it's like they tried to make a smaller version of the ridiculous Ford explorer truck from the 00s.

If Chevy doesn't make a cyberLuv I think I'll just have to do a UTE conversion on a diesel jetta

 

I like it. Totally useless in the field but I've always had a soft spot for ford tractors lol
