What is the best kind of recovery strap

Basically I was looking into picking up a recovery strap but there are several types/brands and I know there are plenty of folks on here that know about this subject and what is better hook or loop? Thanks

 

No hooks. One of the best is a snatch strap... like the ARB. It will give you stretch and less likely to pull your bumper off. Don't ask me how I know.

get a wheelers recovery strap. just got mine and havent had a chance to test it but everyone ive talked to likes em. and they are cheaper than others

Agreed, you want a recovery strap made of Nylon. Best fiber for most applications due to its low level of elasticity.

 

Actually, nylon is preferred in snatch straps for the opposite reason. It has greater elasticity compared with poly.

That is exactly what I meant, I just chose my words very poorly.

What I meant by "low level of elasticity" was that it has a little stretch, not that "it's not very stretchy".

In other words, it's not a completely static fiber, but it's not a dynamic fiber either, like elastic.

yea i got a regular strap .... its gettin tore up though i might need to replace it .... the reason i have it is for when i get stuck (1wd trucks should come with em) ... but recently i pulled my friends 83 accord 2 miles back to his house after the starter broke lol

 

Walmart. Like 10 bucks. 6500lb capacity. If it breaks, I don't cry. I just go buy.

 

That's great right up until it damages something or worse, hurts somebody. Also, those have no stretch in them so if you need to snap somebody out, be prepared to come to a complete stop.

 

6500lbs is a bit too small for our trucks. That's more for an ATV - not a vehicle.

You should atleast get one that's 10k minimum tow strength with 20k breaking strength.

 

ive gotten pulled out with my walmart strap in my 99 mazda more times than i can count, and its been used to pull out my toyota once too ... and a couple weeks ago a jeep used it to pull out an 01 taco .... so walmart straps are just fine
