The risk with that, I think, is if the currency devalues to zero, or the regime changes and they axe the old currency, you could be out your $5k rickytick. I wouldn't hold foreign currency like that on a hope and a prayer it recovers 50% in several years.

Currency is not like a stonk. It won't suddenly go up 400% in a week

 

Look up the oil embargo from 1973. Then look at what happened to inflation from 73-80. Now, picture that but not with oil. Picture it with trade in general and global finance specifically. I've said this before but Russia is fucked. They're already running about 10% inflation and they just got a 40% hit to their stock market and a 30% hit to their currency. It's gonna get a whole lot worse before it even thinks about starting to get better.

 

And 20% interest rates now too

With all the global money fleeing Russia I expect them to keep the market closed for a while. Banks are going to start failing soon and the state will bail them out for now. Eventually the lack of global liquidity will crush the ruble and Russia.
