My truck delivery is delayed due to Toyota inspection?

I placed a deposit on a 2022 SR5 about a week before its build date. It was built on Feb 19th. The salesman said it usually takes at least two weeks to show up at the dealership and to figure mid March. Yesterday I got this text from the salesman:

Good morning it's Txxx with Toyota. Your truck is built but Toyota wanted to inspect the truck just to make sure all is well they usually do this a lot. But it pushed it back some. It was looking middle of March but may be after that depending on Toyota. Just keep driving your truck the numbers will stay the same. Unless you wreck your car. Let me know if you need anything.

After some follow up text he said it might be an additional 30 days. I have no pressing issue where I need the truck right away. In fact I would rather icy weather get past before I get it because I will coat the frame with spray on cosmoline. I want to spray the frame before any salt gets in there.

Is this Toyota inspection a good thing or could this be a bad sign? It might be a lucky thing on my part in that my truck is going to be gone over with an inspection. On the other hand could this mean my truck got pulled due to a problem/shoddy work?

Does anyone here know what all is involved with Toyota post assembly inspections? What parts do they inspect and how thorough are they? If they measure or find things out of spec do they get it corrected or is it just noted for their internal quality statistics? I assume the reason for the long delay is not due to the time it takes to do the inspection but rather my truck is waiting in the inspection line for up to a month.

Or could this whole thing be a bullshit story and in reality my truck is sitting in a lot somewhere waiting for parts that are not currently available?

Save that text securely. BS or not, it's a good thing in that you now have documentation which could strengthen your case should you have future issues. An unofficial rider to the warranty so to speak.

18 hours to build the truck then 30 days to inspect it? The salesman is full of shit

    “usually do this a lot”.

    WTF does that even mean?

It would have been so much easier to just say, “There’s a potential for delay on the delivery of your truck”. And I find it more courteous to delivering “bad” news via a phone call. But that’s just me.

seems fine. due to the whole covid thing, they could be taking longer then usual to receive trucks. I know that once they receive your truck, they have to go over it and add little gaskets and seals in the frame. The frame has open holes in it once the truck comes to the dealer and they have to put plugs into it and other inspections they do. This is all normal.

Im just guessing that they are short staffed and cant get around to it as soon as you like.

this guy is awesome and explains it all

Definitely not bullshit brother don't worry. I sell Toyota and it's the worst thing we want to see is a truck go from freight to freight inspection. I have 3 presold tundras right now sitting right across the bridge in arkansas awaiting inspection and it is indeed a random quality control inspection. There are actually articles on it and it's a good thing. It means not only was your truck checked at the factory but it is being thoroughly inspected again to make sure everything is perfect and check random batches for problems and means without a shadow of a doubt you're getting a perfect truck. Its frustrating...but also nice that Toyota does that to make sure nothing is slipping thru the cracks. I'm sure by now you've gotten your truck with no problems and I'm sorry you had to go thru that but I promise all is well and there are no missing parts or etc, it's literally getting checked along with all the others on that train at the railyard before its final trek and usually the moment they're released they arrive within a week.

Did you get a VIN number on your deposit docs? Is it possible they sold your truck to somebody else and now they are trying to locate another truck for you? I ask because it’s been about 4 months since this thread was created and no update from the OP. Hopefully the OP got his truck and all is good.

Yes I got delivery of the truck on July 20th. It was built on Feb 19th and I picked it up on July 20th. Funky, it was five months of who knows what and where. However, the truck seems just fine.

5 Months! I'm searching around the web for insight on why my truck is taking forever. It was built on May 11th in Baja. It has a VIN, build sheet and PDF version of a window sticker. The sales guy has no idea when Toyota will send it up to MN.

Cool first post, Toyota shill. Reviving a thread that's almost 5 months to do it. Let me guess... you've been tasked with internet damage control for all the incomplete vehicles sitting around that people are waiting for? The interwebz doesn't buy your BS, go back to the drawing board.

They sold it to someone else for more money, then tell you a bullshit story while they get you another truck.

I wonder if that's what the hold up has been. Won't all of the hooks have to be rewelded to correct the issue? That's going to be annoying for both the vehicle owner, and the dealership.
