Yep, it fixed the issue for me. Something about fuel pressure issues with the old fuel pump. New one solved the issue.

Thanks for the reply. I can't remember if you said this earlier in the thread, been doing too much research into this issue.. but when you were having issues did you notice that your fuel pressure would bleed off after turning off the engine? What led you to the replacing the pump?

Well -- My fuel pressure regulator was fine, my fuel pressure in the lines was fine, new ECT Sensor, I had my injectors cleaned and flow and leak tested and reinstalled, new fuel pump, new spark plugs, newish (a couple years ago) wire set and coil boots, and fuel filter. New valve cover gaskets, new MAF sensor, I cleaned the throttle body and upper and lower intake plenums, new battery, new PCV valve, no holes in the vacuum lines-- and STILL I'm having an intermittent long crank no start/hard start.

Timing belt and water pump are next as they need done.

Any ideas? I'm running out of ideas -- and money.

Just recently cleaned the PCM and associated contacts and plugs. No dice. Thinking about trying to get under the fuse box and see if the wires might be corroded or somehow compromised. Can't stand this issue and my mechanic and I can't figure it out.

Did you replace the fuel pump? They said there was a pressure issue after the truck was shut down, on mine. It lost pressure or something too fast. I don't remember. All I know is they replaced the fuel pump and no more issues.

Sounds like you had a bad check valve in your fuel pump! That's awesome that you found a fix! Unfortunately, yes I have replaced my fuel pump and I still have the issue. My mechanic tested for fuel pressure bleed after turning of the vehicle and apparently it was in spec -- no pressure bleed.

Could be EVAP related, PCM related, Electrical.. etc.

I've thrown so much money, time, and parts at it, it's frustrating. At this point i'm just waiting for whatever part that is going bad to go out, probably resulting in my truck not starting at all, so I can finally fix whatever's wrong with it.

hey man, OP said the fuel pump fixed his issue so I’m assuming your case might be different since you stated your FP was replaced.

I’ve read this entire thread, maybe 5 times now. My 2000 5VZ taco is having the same problems.

My first thought too was bad injectors.
Battery was fine, maf was cleaned, intake was clean, throttle body was cleaned.

Only thing I had done recently to the Truck was put a new OEM fuel filter on.
Week later it had long hot starts. Extended cranking when engine was at operating temps. But at first cold start of the day it started just fine.

My trucks currently at my mechanics shop, and I’ve told them to go ahead and replace the fuel pump.
Im crossing my fingers that it solves the cranking issue.
I will report back when it’s complete.
I’m new to the forums so bare with me

i have 355k on the original injectors
no clue if they are good of if they are not good
but definitely am having weird funk in the truck lately for the past year or so
where to start to drill down on this issue :notsure:
could be that the fuel pump is fatigued, IDK!

My Tacoma has 287k. Dont know much from the two previous owners. my truck has a weird extended crank during warm starts when the engines at operating temp.
This issue started a week after I replaced the fuel filter with an OEM filter.

I am also having extremely poor fuel efficiency. My gas gauge drops extremely fast. Thinking it was the sending unit at first but paired with long cranks leads me to believe poor pressure in the fuel rail or entire system after shut down.
    I’ll keep everyone updated

I’ll try this if the Fuel pump doesn’t fix my issue. Thanks for the insight brother
