I've had decent luck with my redtops, only had one die from a small drain i couldn't bring back to life. only reason i run them is because i can get a replacement locally otherwise i would probably run northstars.

Not sure but I thought 3rd gens didn’t require as much disassembly as second gens to access behind that part of the dash. On my second gen I did it in conjunction with F/R camera anytime upgrade and though tedious it wasn’t impossibly so. Most of the initial stuff goes quickly both on removal and install. Most of the work I had to do happened before I even touched the truck.

I suggest replacing the entire cable. Eventually, corrosion will build up in your splice.

tbh…. Huge pain in the ass. You have to disassemble the ENTIRE dash and center. Then you have to cut it apart with some finesse and glue the panel on.

Installed a Kicker Key 200.4 at the same time so that I could have it good and mounted hidden away. Improves the hell out of the audio quality.

Installed the genesis kit with group 34 odyssey batteries. Also installed a 100w solar panel with Rich solar control charger. Just enough for a trickle charge out in the middle of nowhere. At home I trickle charge with odyssey charger.
With all the accessories I'm running in the vehicle, high stereo amps, and when offroad winch when needed (400+ amps), ARB compressor, portable fridge, ecoflow portable battery, and lighting (ditch, bumper, chase, etc.)
I also re-tuned the alternator (ov tune) to give more juice from 13v to 14.4 running.. Breakers and killswitch are installed in appropriate units..

The alternator is my next purchase… NEED it. Wish I had somewhere to mount solar.

Following up here; I've been searching high and low for something like a bedrail-mounted panel that sits high against the window (I currently have a topper), Like this, only on the bed side (and sure, I could build my own; what materials?) https://youtu.be/2o7T2F9rFko?t=1016

I think you're right though; once I get the camper I'll probably start from there. Since there's a year-long waitlist, I figure I could get started (ex.: portable solar generator (LION? Bluetti? Redarc homebrew/transfer items to new build?)

    Thanks!

The biggest advantage of lithium is the weight but you need to do the homework before you get into that because it’s a different kettle of fish. Flexible panels also don’t weigh nearly as much because there’s no aluminum frame or glass, it’s just the panel itself. Often just glued to the roof but you could lay it on the windshield or hood if you only use it when parked.

Sorry, I meant a control panel area. Something that mounts say, a Redvision, bus block, inverter, etc. maybe even an slim LiFePO. Super Pacific has a molle mount much like I’m describing.

If you have windoors that can be a good place especially since you really can’t see much out the driver's side anyway.

Does this mod make my exhaust sound meaner when I start the truck?

Just got a redarc 1225D BCDC charger and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with setting it up with just a single battery setup ill be looking to do dual down the road but prepping ahead of time first and I will be doing dual odyssey batteries for the dual setup.

Less voltage drop pre-starter means a more consistent rotation and sharper punch out the tailpipe on first detonations

That's the future; deleted earlier post about win-doors in the new camper. Would love some kind of bed panel for electronics control; barely see a version @10:26 here:
https://youtu.be/DsdsD8s22Hk?t=625 I don't (but will likely have to) fab up something that is higher up on the bed side, behind the driver side rear window. Not a fan of wood; maybe some kind of synthetic (PVC foam sheet/with ACM? Kydex? Cheaper and more durable stuff)? Unsure here on materials. A simple rack that mounted upwards seems like an easy thing; not sure why it's not yet a thing.
