I hope they cover it all for you. They are paying $2100/$3050 under the goodwill program for the repaint of my hood, left and right quarter panels, rear door on driver’s side, and gas door. I have a 2017, and they should absolutely be paying for everything.

Curious if anyone has taken a paint thickness meter to the common problem areas prior to issues? (or post-issue but assuming thats not really possible/reliable) Does anyone know what the spec thickness should be for comparison?

I doubt there is a thickness standard. More of a, does it cover the metal and can you see through it.

I would guess it’s an application problem that doesn’t exists in Toyota’s eyes.

I have the same under the hood issue and my dealership was given approval from corporate to split it with me 60/40. It's just the passenger side fender. My out of pocket would be about $550, so I am going the touch up paint route. I am getting another truck in the next year, this is the kind of stuff that tarnishes their brand image which is too bad.

Well folks, add my 2016 to the list of trucks with paint peel under the hood.

Before I read through this entire 10 page thread to gain more insight, has anyone with an extended warranty had any luck with getting this repaired?

I have a 1989 4wd SR5 that I use on the farm. No paint or serious rust issues. Love it so much that I bought a ‘16 Taco. Interior flooded from the faulty brake light issue and now the paint is peeling off. If there’s not a ticking time bomb then this truck was painted by robots on a Monday after a 3-day 4th of July bender. Stay away from Super White if you can.

Out of the blue, I got a call from the dealer wanting to measure the paint thickness on my 2016 SW SR5 4x. They are giving me a $150 e-certificate and a loaner for the day. I have no peeling and hadn't complained about the paint in any way. ???

Interesting....can you try to find out if it was the dealer or Toyota Corporate that initiated it?

I'll add that to the questions I'll have for them when I go in.

I asked the question and the answer was 'There has been a problem with other models as well as the Tacomas and that corporate may be stepping up to the plate on Tacomas'. The SA then said 'there has been a lot of problems with' and then pointed at the window jam area of driver side rear door and said ' I don't want to touch it because it might flake'. They are well aware of the problems. They gave me a '22 AG OR rental for the day while doing the checks.

Thanks! Don't think we should hold our breaths, but I'm cautiously optimistic that Toyota will come around on this. Hope everyone that has had issues saved their receipts.

Corporate. We may see a customer support program soon similar to the ZKG for other white Toyotas.

Wow, thanks for the update. Looks optimistic that Toyota my do the right thing for those affected. Really hope that’s the case. So far my 2020 has had no issues.

That’s a step in the right direction. I washed my truck last week and the driver’s side window jam paint stripped off. Was going to get the touch up paint out again, but I think I’ll let it run it’s course and see what Toyota does.
