Last weekend was the girlfriends birthday so we took a road trip in the taco to northern Wisconsin. We wanted to go to the ice caves in the Apostle islands but they were closed after a storm. We instead went to some breweries and got some intel that the ice road to Madeline Island was open. So Saturday we got to drive across 2 miles of frozen Lake Superior to the island. There wasn't much open but we hiked around Big Bay State Park and Big Bay Town Park. Both had really cool ice formations from the water spray on the shore. I didn't get any pictures of the truck but I am putting together a video from our new GoPro I'll post when its done. Here are some of the cool things we saw.

Only had a couple that show the rear end. I used HyperDip (dipyourcar.com) on my bumper last summer and it's held up great so far. When I wash it, I put product called Dip Coat on to protect it. I think it should hold up OK to the basic elements, we'll see.

I have a Prerunner, the only option is 1/8” thickness. I don’t need more, my taco is a pavement queen. The extra thickness, 3/16”, is only offered for 4WD models.

I'm trying to understand the aluminum plates offered as protection against a sawzall but I have a real hard time with just not submitting an insurance theft claim instead. I also keep comp and collision even on paid off vehicles so that might be why I have a hard time grasping it.

The responsiveness is truly amazing, totally changes the feel and drive of my truck. I can spin my 33’s with ease now lol! No regrets at all, should’ve done it a long time ago. :)

I hear you, NOTHING is 100% theft-proof…. If they want it that bad, they’re going to get it:thumbsup:

I have an alarm and kill switch installed on my Taco. If they roll in with a flat bed tow truck and winch it up, the alarm and kill switch is going to be a mute point…

All you’re really trying to do, is to make it as big a pain in the ass as possible, so hopefully, they go - you know what? Is too much of a hustle and extra time, and they move on.

I also keep comprehensive and collision on my Taco. That’s not an issue. I just would prefer to avoid getting my girl destroyed by some asshole. I think it would really suck if I have to see how they trashed my Taco. I know that I could get my insurance company involved. To me that is besides the point.

I want to try to prevent it from happening in the first place as much as possible.

    That’s really it, IMHO.

I'm looking at this less from the actual theft perspective and more from the cost perspective. I know it's going to cost me at least $500 if they get cut out in order for my insurance to replace them. I know it's going to cost me at least $500 right now to buy that.

But if somebody already feels comfortable enough to try to cut the cat out, that means that there's very little chance that somebody's going to notice them. So an extra 30 seconds or even 60 seconds afforded by an aluminum plate is super low priority. And in fact, instead of them just taking the cat they might start trying to make cuts into other parts and really mess things up.

I don't know. It just seems like good marketing.

    Uh. Ok.

It almost seems like based on your response, you think we were arguing. No one's arguing here. I won't get one. That doesn't necessarily mean that I can't be critical of it.

Sure, to each their own. Enjoy your day.

The thing about these cat thieves is that they don't really care about what car they get it from(most of the time). If they crawl under your car and it has a cat shield on or even some good skid plates, They are going to move on to the car next to yours that doesn't have anything in the way so they can make 2 cuts and run in 2 mins. If you have something in the way they are much less likely to take them because it does take the extra seconds to get threw or around them. That being said Nothing is going to completely stop them if they really want yours.
