I've never driven an RX-7 before, but I hear they're all incredibly fun to drive; I'll bet this one is actually reliable though! We lived in Virginia Beach from 1998 to 2000, when my dad was stationed at Norfolk. Our next door neighbor was a guy named who was an electrician with his own electric contracting company; In 1999, he bought a bought a red 1989 or 1990 Mazda RX-7 convertible with a black interior. The car was absolutely mint, and he got vanity plates that said "RAYS RX7"; He loved that car, but it had electrical problems. If it sat for an extended period of time, which it did often because it wasn't a daily driver (Ray's daily was a blue 1995 Nissan pickup which he replaced with a brand new Jeep Cherokee in 1999), the battery would die; The car also had some mechanical problems if I remember correctly, and at one point the car was used in some sort of movie. I have no idea what movie it was, or if Ray received any compensation, but I can remember the crew showing up to get the car and Ray had to help them push it out of the garage and then jumpstart it. Ray abruptly decided to sell that car within a year or less of buying it, and I found out he was selling it when my dad took me to 7-Eleven for a Slurpee and I saw the car on the front cover of the local AutoTrader...

It was an absolutely beautiful car, and I never rode in it but I did sit in it a few times; What impressed me the most aside from the fact that it was a convertible, was that it was no newer than 1990 (It was either a 1989 or a 1990, but I forget) and it had a factory radio with both a CD and cassette player! My parents' 1996 Nissan Pathfinder had a factory CD player, and my dad's 1990 Mazda B2600i had a tape player, but neither of them had both

 

I remember the old ones, I almost bought a 79 or 80 black one.

Seen those 350 conversions on the RX7 and the Datsun 280ZX before too..

 

A friend's father had a silver and then a dark blue Mazda pickup growing up..always liked them

 

Seats look comfortable

 

Probably be a little more fun with the V8, lol. My old 2000 Tacoma had the Factory Tape/CD Combo, was pretty cool.

 

Cupcake's 2005 Rav4 had the same..

 

My 03.5 Protege 5 has factory 6 CD with cassette module but took cassette part off and added GROM audio connection for aux input and has usb charge port and usb input port for thumb drive. The stereo still has cassette door face on it tho. It also had MD module available that could go in same place as cassette module goes in. Had an AUXMOD board to add aux 3.5mm input for awhile that used same port as the cassette module used so just left face on stereo. IIRC, the GROM audio is in cd1 port on back of unit so if I could find my cassette module I could have AM/FM/cassette/aux/USB/6 CD all working since not using AUXMOD board for aux input any more. Also have to look at all the cables off GROM to see if I also have ipod connection. May have to do another search for my cassette module this wknd...lots of parts boxes to search thru, lol.

***** found 2 NIB oem cassette units on ebay for cheap if I don't find mine.
