Grabbing the RTT tomorrow! Got a great deal on it but looks like I’ll need mounting hardware. What do most folks use to attach a hardshell to the bed rack?

Depends on what rack and tent you have. I have an iKamper with a Leitner rack, they make specific brackets for it. Each tent company should have their own brackets, some rack companies have their own brackets. Wish I could be more specific but the best way would be to research on their sites!

Yeah I figured as much. Just making sure there wasn’t a magic quick remedy everyone knew about except me. Thanks for the help!

I will be taking the CVT out from winter storage this weekend. Pretty excited.
*Also be doing a Prinsu roof rack and CaliRaised light bar install.

Just mounted a Smittybilt Overlander Gen 2 on my CBI Overland Bars and ran into an issue with clearance on the mid-height bars and back of the cab with the rain fly support bar.

I thought about trying to bend it to clear the cab, but not sure if it’ll work. Another option would be to just tie it up to my Prinsu roof rack with paracord, but would love to just use the bar if possible.

This isn’t my first roof top tent, just the first one I’ve mounted on the Tacoma. I leave all windows open for the airflow because I burn up when I sleep, so I almost hate to leave that window closed now.

Anyone have any suggestions for that rain fly support bar closest to the cab?

Bungee cord to roof rack. Is what I did.

That’s kinda what I had in mind as well. A short run would make it to my roof rack, just wanted to see what ideas other have used.

Got any pictures of how your’s looks with the bungee to the roof rack?

No worries, maybe a few others will chime in who have made a work around.

I've got some 1/4 marine bungee leftover from one of my Jackson Kayaks that I'll make work. Someone else doing it is at least proof of concept. I'll probably try to find some plastic hooks to tie on the end to make it quick to hook up.

I had my first RTT on top of my Wrangler JKU and camped all over this part of the States in it, but it was like putting a slightly smaller brick on a larger brick with wheels. It caught wind like you wouldn't believe, bad enough that I had to add a third strap over the ladder to try and keep the cover down. So if the only issue I run into with mid-height bars on my Tacoma is one rain fly support, then I'm more than happy with that to keep it under the roof line.

    Thank you. Its progressing.

    Nice. I like that.

It looks like the cover design on the tent is the same as mine. Do you have any issues getting it open or closed? The cover is soo tight on mine. I struggle to get the zipper un-done.

I do, mine is the first design so it doesn't even have the zipper lol. Mine is very tight as well. But ive used it a fair amount so it wears in a good bit. Ive gotten use to it and can open and close it fairly good now. I headed the edges of the cover up as well and stretched them a little and that seemed to help. Just don't over do it or you'll damage the material.

Was going to mount my old tent this weekend but then said screw it and jumped on that CVT sale, Hybrid Mt Rainier standard fly inbound.

I wonder what the going rate for a well used Mt Rainier extended fly and annex room is?

    Yeah.
Bungee is what I use, wasn't sure if I had a pic but found one. BTW, bending does not work, at least it didn't for me -- I managed to get something of a bend in one of the bars, but it still wasn't enough. I just keep the bungee cord in the door pocket on that side. In cooler weather I just leave the side flaps down to retain warmth.

This is exactly what I had in mind. I'm about 100 back into this thread and just came across someone else mentioning the same thing with a picture.

Both of my Smittybilt's came with 4 bungees inside to pull the sides in while packing up. Might just be able to repurpose one of those while the tent is open if I don't make one with some scraps of bungee or paracord.

On another note, I love the WheelEveryWeekend security mounts, but haven't pulled the trigger on them yet since they cost as much as a good awning. Where is everyone getting their tri-wing security nuts for the stock mounting bolts to add an extra level of theft deterrent?
