Apparently Rivian just raised their prices by approximately 20%. Affects preorder holders, some of whom have had reservations since 2018 and have yet to receive their vehicles. Sucks big time. This current market is f@cked!

Fixed that for you. And, I feel that it will, hence their referring to it as the EV Pickup and not a Tacoma, unless I'm mistaken. I thought I'd read or heard somewhere that the BZ line would be handled similarly to the Scion or even Lexus brands.

Yep. My $79k preorder is now $94k for the exact same thing. That’s not happening for me now but I’m thinking I’ll keep my order in for my place in line just in case.

A poll on the Rivian forums asked if people plan to keep their reservations after this increase. About 500 responses of which 42% say they’re cancelling, 41% say they aren’t sure and only 17% say they are sticking with Rivian. If that plays out across the entire preorder pool then Rivian just lost 50% of their orders to the tune of $3.6 billion in lost sales.

I saw my first Rivian yesterday…
Looks great in person - even the silly front is more appealing ‘live’.

In other words, reality is telling us that we’ll need to pay more for stuff as the currency devalues…

This accounts for at least a good chunk of that increase…

Many items are seeing significant price increases at the wholesale level lately.

Yep. It's like the joke "How can you tell who owns a Tesla? Easy, they'll tell you at every opportunity they get."

That was like five years ago where I live. Now Teslas are everywhere and common and all the annoying people you’ve described are wanting something new to feel special about. Your area will see the same thing happen. You're just in a different place on the curve.

90,000 is too much for a Rivian. I don’t care how “cool shit” they are. That’s a lot of money. I’d rather buy a Tacoma and donate the rest to charities of my choosing if someone handed me the dough and those two options.

Could always switch out for an offgrid inverter instead?

Tbh Net metering isn't good for the grid anyway. Your watt of panel produced at solar maximum is not worth the same as a watt of power during a calm night.

Yeah me too … in SD. I usually charge the tesla at 4-6kw during peak daytime in order to “soak up” all the panels are producing, live. Then use the app to schedule any extra charging at like 2 am -6 am when rates are very cheap .

The way things are going for Rivian, and the Cyber truck. The only way people will be able to get an electric truck by 2030, will be from the big three and Toyota.

90k Rivian vs 40k Tacoma (or any 40k mid size)... Pretty sure that offset covers the cost of fuel and maintenance for a whole lot longer. Anyone care to do the math? If you drove 15k a year at 6.50 a gallon up to 200k miles?

That's $4600 in fuel each year.
$58k in fuel over 200k miles which at 15k miles per year is 13 years to even get to 200k.

So even about 10 years of ownership for a $40k vehicle with expensive gas at $6.50 doesn't justify the cost of that EV currently.

And this is all some serious over estimations. Average miles driven is 12k. Average cost of fuel is currently 3.60 (yes, rising and will jump it to 4 or 5 easy).
That leaves you money for maintenance too...

So 90k up front plus charging and maintenance? Anyone wanna take a ballpark of ownership cost to 200k? Granted, you could get a small vehicle incapable of quite a bit, but let's stick to comparing capable trucks here. Maybe that's just rivian but I suspect equally sized trucks won't be much cheaper the way things are going.

Yes, I'll stick with my gas guzzler. Until EV trucks start hitting the normal price range.

It’s not about cost of fuel it’s about progression into the future, we can’t keep using up everything on the planet, eventually it will run out. Why can’t we invent and move on from old things. Oh right the old crusty bags clinging to old ways. If you don’t want an EV vehicle don’t buy it and don’t come here and share you negative opinions about the rest of us and our future you just stay home and bitch about fuel prices as they go up. Normal is over welcome to your new reality of everything costing 3 times it was 5 years ago, go get a job or get a raise to compete with inflation.

I don't mind the opposite opinion of owning an EV, it's their weird way to try and make them look worse than they are and the people that drive them look like D bags. It all come down to their misinformation and when they say something it must be true and not even research it and post it up as fact.

All of the new EV’s are relatively expensive, that’s why we need early adopters to get in and help drive the technology and the market.

Just like the people who bought the first flat screen televisions when they were $5000. I bet the Venn diagram shows that they also bought Teslas early on.

Ya I just don’t get it, I’m old school too but know it’s time to move on. It was fun but I’m excited to see the future.
