Does anyone have experience with the OME 886 coils/Nitrocharger combo?

    Hey there,
I am new to this forum, so I apologize in advance if this has been asked before. I am looking to beef up my front suspension to compensate for a steel bumper/winch combo, but do not want to go over 1” or so of lift past level to avoid drastic rear lean. I am looking at OME 886/nitrocharger combo from OME. They can be shipped pre-assembled, which is a huge bonus for me hoping to save some money installing them myself. Any advice or experience with this combo and if it would suit what i need? Also, any knowledge on longevity of the OME shocks would be great. Bumper/winch combo weighs approximately 220lbs Thanks!

I have this setup with some HD dakars. I'm running an arb deluxe Bull bar bumper with a 5500 winch and steel cable inside of that bumper. Easily weighing 250-300. I really like it, but I'm sure you already know it's super stiff compared to other setups I've experienced. Overall, I like it for the price and have been running mine for about 4-5 years no issues besides needing to swap worn bushings (50k miles)

One thing I've noticed that's common is the struts have a finish that is pretty lackluster compared to others and it's pretty common for them to start developing surface rust/chipping pretty quickly. However I haven't found any performance issue from the rust development. The nitro chargers don't seem to have that problem.

I do not regret picking these. Money well spent imo. This setup should meet your needs and hopefully expectations.

Edit: seems people see anywhere from 50k-100k miles on a set before they typically feel the need to replace the coilovers or nitros. It really just depends on what kind of driving or wheeling you've exposed them to.

Im glad to hear that it has worked well for others. I am really not too concerned about stiffness as i wont be touching the rear, which is about as soft as a cinderblock, and anything is better than stock front suspension compressed 3/4. Did you have to replace UCA’s or anything else to get correct alignment specs?

It's my guess that you're going to get about 2" or more of lift with 886's. Perhaps add a leaf in the back to help out the lean?

My truck is a single cab 4x4, so i am a little worried that 886s may be too stiff, as my curb weight stock is ~500lbs less than a double cab. Should i get 885s instead of 886s? I just hear that 885s sag significantly more than 886s, and i have a very heavy full steel bumper to keep these southeast whitetails out of my radiator.

Good question. I'm not sure, but hopefully someone else can pitch in with info. It's possible that 885's will work and compress down enough to negate the lift, but I don't know how it would ride.
If no one chimes in, try and email or call Headstrong Offroad. They're very helpful.

Yeah, several of these threads have led me to talk to them. I was hoping more folks could chime in with info like the guy above that have a similar heavy front setup and how that sits compared to a stock rear. It seems that with 200lbs+ on 886s it sits more or less level. If it winds up having to come up in the back though, i will probably just cheap out with a 1” block or something as I dont expect a truck to ride like a cadillac, and cant do enough serious offroading or hauling in my daily for it to matter
